Harrisonville man seriously injured in Saline County crash
Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2002 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 20 year old Taylor R. Beckenbach of Blue Springs, Missouri was stopped on the roadway partially blocking the right lane when she was struck by 2012 Ford van driven by 59 year old Kim A. Ross of Madison Illinois.
The collision caused both vehicles to begin sliding on the roadway before coming to a stop in the right lane of traffic. The van struck the ground, overturned and came to stop in the left lanes of traffic.
Three people from the Volkswagen were transported by Air Ambulance with injuries Taylor R. Beckenbach sustained minor injuries, 44 year old Eric S. Preston of Harrisonville, Missouri sustained serious injuries in this accident and 20 year old Melissa Short of Blue Springs, Missouri sustained serious injuries in this accident. Kim A. Ross refused medical treatment,
The vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene by Don's Towing.

Appleton City man arrested on St. Clair County warrant

The charges stem from an incident the previous day when St. Clair County deputies responded to Third Street in Appleton City in reference to a domestic disturbance in progress. McKinney allegedly threatened the life of a female victim and her family. The victim stated McKinney refused to let her leave the house. Later the same day a deputy made contact with McKinney and he threatened the life of the deputy.
During the contact, McKinney also made advances placing the deputy in apprehension of physical attack.
Obituary - Opal June King
Opal June King, 81, Independence, Missouri, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Rosewood Health and Rehab Center in Independence. (Cremation).
Opal was born October 11, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Fred Raymond and Nellie Frances (Young) Grossnickle. She had lived in Kansas City and Independence most of her life. Opal had worked in housekeeping at several local hospitals in the Independence, Missouri area.
Opal was preceded in death by two sons, John Robert Wheeler, Jr. and Jeffrey Wheeler. She is survived by two sons, Justin Wheeler and Jerry Wheeler; three daughters, Joyce Spieler, Janet Heavner, and Judy Barlow; two sisters, Shirley Markle, and Harriett Mason.

Mike was born May 4, 1981 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was raised by his grandparents, Hershell and Barbara (Kagarice) Strong. He attended Lee’s Summit High School with the Class of 2000. Mike married Michelle J. Bell on August 9, 2012 in Butler, Missouri. He worked for Enersys in Kansas City as a field service engineer.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Michelle, and one son, Bow Strong, both of the home; one brother, Randy Wining (Cassandra), and his best friend, Ryan Yearout (Tabitha).

Harrisonville police buy body-worn cameras
Harrisonville police will soon record interactions with the public with cameras attached to their vests.Police Chief John Hofer said the department purchased the cameras in late December. Officers will be trained on usage and policy Feb. 4, and Hofer said he’s aiming for March 1 to equip his officers with the cameras.

Breaking News: Fatality accident closes Missouri Highway 13 in Clinton
Missouri Highway 13 is currently closed at this time in Clinton, Missouri as the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County investigates a serious crash.
The crash is said to have happened at 6:20 p.m. and involved two vehicles.
One person has been killed in this accident and the Highway remains closed at this time.

Lorinda Lee Orear, age 80 of Hume, Missouri died Friday, January 22, 2016 in Hume. She was born December 2, 1935 to Roy and Agnes Luetta Evans Daniel in Butler, Missouri.
Lorinda is survived by her husband Buford Cecil Orear of Hume, Missouri; two sons, Shawn Orear and wife Angelena and Stacy, all of Hume, Missouri; one brother, Jack Daniel and wife Renee of ElDorado Springs, Missouri; one sister, Lois Bonavee Cayton of Appleton City, Missouri; and two granddaughters, Kayla Orear and Katie Pruitt and husband Eric, all of Hume, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Two from Archie injured in bizzare Cass County crash
Around 1:20 p.m. this afternoon the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a one vehicle accident on Route Y Southbound at County Road 233rd in rural Cass County.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by 35 year old Stephanie M. Clinesmith of Archie, Missouri was being towed by another vehicle Southbound on Route Y when she lost control of the vehicle on a curve causing it to separate from the vehicle towing it.
The vehicle traveled off the roadway striking a stop sign and hitting a utility pole before coming to rest of the road.
Stephanie Clinesmith along with a passenger 37 year old Shaun M. Cox of Archie, Missouri were both transported by West Peculiar Fire to Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The vehicle was towed from the scene by J's Southland Towing.

Man found dead in burning trailer in Southern Missouri
JASPER, Mo. (AP) - Authorities in Jasper County say a 34-year-old man has been found dead inside a burning travel trailer.
The Jasper County Sheriff's Department said Saturday in a release that deputies responded to a call of a fire at the trailer in Jasper late Friday night.
When they arrived they found Joseph Pennington dead inside. He had been living in the trailer.
The sheriff's department says the death appears to be accidental but has scheduled an autopsy.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Rollover accident North of Rich Hill injures two
Around 10:00 pm last night the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County along with the Bates County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on County Road 517 0.1 miles North of 6th Street in Rich Hill.The Missouri State Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by 20 year old Dustin A. Ross of Rich Hill, Missouri failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The Cavalier traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned and landed on its top.
Dustin A Ross and a passenger in his vehicle 21 year old Teisha J. Lesmeister both of Rich Hill sustained minor injuries in this accident and both were transported to Bates County Memorial Hospital by private vehicle.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Gilkey's Tow of Rich Hill.

Vernon County accident sends one to the hospital
Around 5:35 pm last night the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 54 Highway 5 miles West of Deerfield.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2009 Hyundai Genesis driven by 24 year old Christopher L. Frazier of Nevada, Missouri attempted to pass the 2003 Mercury Sable driven by 52 year old Karyn E. Freeze of Ft. Scott Kansas when Frazier lost control of his vehicle and struck the Mercury in the side and forcing off the roadway into several trees.
Karyn E. Freeze sustained moderate injuries in his accident and was transported to Ft. Scott Hospital in Ft. Scott Kansas. Mr. Frazier wasn't injured in this accident.
The Mercury received moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Pearson Towing of Redfield, Kansas. The Hyundai sustained minor damages in this accident and was driven from the scene.

MoDOT WINTER TRAVEL UPDATE: Wednesday-Thursday, Jan. 20-21; Travel Discouraged Due to Expected Icy Conditions
 MoDOT advising drivers to avoid travel Wednesday evening through Thursday due to expected icy road conditions.Freezing drizzle and light snow are again in the forecast for Wednesday evening into late Thursday night, January 20-21. Icy road conditions are expected. Weather Conditions: Freezing drizzle and light snow are forecasted to begin during the early evening hours along Missouri’s western border near Joplin and Nevada. Freezing drizzle will overspread southwest Missouri overnight into early Thursday morning. The result will be ice covered roads and surfaces. The system is not forecasted to leave the area until late Thursday night. The result will be icy roads from Wednesday evening, through morning AND afternoon rush hours on Thursday. Road Clearing: MoDOT crews will be out ahead of the storm and will run ALL routes using ice-clearing chemicals along with abrasives, concentrating on the heaviest traveled roads first including I-49, I-44, Route 60, Route 65, etc. However, despite their best efforts, crews will not be able to keep roads from icing over as the storm sets up over southwest Missouri. As long as there is precipitation in the area, roads will remain slick. As they can, crews will treat hills, curves and intersections on lesser traveled roads. If drivers MUST be on the roads, they are urged to give ALL plows ample room to work. Please stay back at least 100 feet from the back of a plow and avoid passing the large trucks. Travel Conditions: Drivers are urged to AVOID TRAVEL if possible until road conditions improve. Constant freezing drizzle will mean that roadways will be ice covered and slick and will remain that way until the system moves out of the area. Due to the nature of freezing drizzle, pavements may appear wet, but will actually be ice-covered. MoDOT crews will stay on the roads as long as progress is being made and crews remain safe. MoDOT’s intent is to stay on the roads, treating them until major routes are back to mostly clear conditions. Lesser traveled roads will continue to have ice patches but crews will treat hills, curves and intersections. Garden City man injured in accident involving tractor trailer North of Harrisonville
The Harrisonville Police Department along with the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County and Harrisonville EMS responded to a two vehicle accident on Missouri 291 at 238th Street just North of Harrisonville.Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2008 Kia Spectra driven by 27 year old Mark E. Bossow of Garden City, Missouri started to slide on the ice and crossed into the Northbound Lanes of Missouri 291 Highway and struck the trailer of a 2015 Volvo Semi Truck driven by 26 year old Matias Vallardo of Kansas City, Missouri.
A passenger in Mr. Bassow's vehicle 29 year old Nicholas W. Holmberg of Garden City, Missouri sustained moderate injuries in this accident and was transported by Harrisonville EMS to Cass Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The Kia Spectra received moderate damage in the accident and was towed from the scene by Johnson's Tow.

After high school graduation, Joe moved to the St. Louis area where he worked as an aircraft welder until he was drafted into the United States Army. Upon completion of his military duty, he returned to the Liberal area where his parents had moved. He attended college on the GI bill and made education his vocation until his retirement. He began first teaching music in the Hume school district, then Metz for three years, then as Superintendent of the Bronaugh district for six years, before spending eighteen years in Dadeville as their Superintendent. He was a longtime member of the Lockwood United Methodist Church in Lockwood; a greater than 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #87 in Liberal; member of the Eastern Star in Jerico Springs and Lamar; and participated in the American Legion in Greenfield. He was also a member of MSTA School Administrators. He was an accomplished violin player and spent much time in volunteer work associated with music and many various civic organizations. He also loved to garden when time allowed.
Survivors in addition to his wife include his children, Betty Jo Laflen and Jerry M. of Moundville; Joseph Dale Marlow, Jr. and Tammy of Springfield; Becky Jane Toler and Kenneth of Bolivar; Martin Leon Marlow and Beth of Springfield; grandchildren, Joseph Laflen and Adrian; Jerry Laflen and Jill; Russ D. Marlow and Lindsey; Brian Toler; Kendra Young and Zachary; Brandon Toler and Chelsea; Krista Stander and Jordan; Thomas Marlow; and Vance Marlow; nineteen great grandchildren; one brother, Howard Marlow and wife Helen; one sister-in-law, Bobby Marlow; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members and many friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings; and his daughter, Barbara Jean Irwin.
Funeral services for Joseph Dale Marlow will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Lockwood United Methodist Church in Lockwood with Pastor Travis James officiating. Interment will follow in the Lockwood Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from `10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. just prior to the service also at the church.

Boys Youth Development Center Rich Hill Fundraiser Win Firestone Tires
The Rich Hill Youth Development Center (RHYDC) is a facility with the Missouri Division of Youth Services (DYS)and is located in Rich Hill. It is a 24 bed residential treatment facility for boys ages 11 to 17.
The mission of the Division of Youth Services is to enable youth to fulfill their needs in a responsible manner within the context of and with respect for the needs of the family and the community. DYS programs are established to provide the mandated services enumerated in Chapter 219.016 in the Revised Statutes of the state of Missouri. Marlyn P. Long, 86, Nevada, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kansas following a short illness.
Marlyn was born January 22, 1929 west of Irwin in Barton County, Missouri. She was the only child of Floyd W. and Mina M. (Davis) Greer. She married THE love of her life, H. Dayton Long, also of rural Barton County, on August 29, 1948 in Noel, Missouri. He preceded her in death in February 2010.
She graduated from Lamar High School in 1947 and briefly taught school in rural Barton County before working in Lamar at the Barton County State Bank and then the Lamar Trust Company. She briefly left the banking world to follow Dayton to Oceanside, California while he was in the Marines at Camp Pendleton. When he shipped out for Korea she returned to Lamar and returned to banking. They moved to Nevada in 1958 and she continued working at the Trust Company until the early 1970s when they decided she needed to be in Nevada where their daughter was attending school. She began working for the Nevada R-5 School District as their Health Secretary, a position she continued until her retirement in 1995. Even then she didn’t retire. She continued working as the secretary for Long & Snead Sewer Service until December 2015 and watched grandson, Brett Snead, grow up. She encouraged and supported his love of animals and enjoyed seeing them and hearing about all their exploits.
Marlyn is survived by their daughter Marla Kay and husband Kenny Snead and grandson Brett Snead of Nevada. She is also survived by aunts/uncles-in-law Marlene Davis, Lamar, Frieda Davis, Jasper, Delbert Phipps, Carthage, and Loyd Holtzen, Miami, OK and numerous much loved nieces and nephews. Close friends Larry and March Garton of Nevada, Charles and Helen Provost and family of Texas, Josephine Schultz of Baton Rouge also survive.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Lake Cemetery, Lamar, MO. Friends may call now and until one hour prior to the service at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to either the Lake Cemetery Association or St Jude’s Hospital in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

Clifton L. “Cliff” Creach passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 at his home due to complications of Multiple Sclerosis.
He was born May 3, 1948 to Jonas Charles “J.C.” and Erma D. (Parrack) Creach near Branch, Missouri. He so enjoyed growing up in rural Macks Creek, Missouri and he graduated from Macks Creek High in 1966. He enlisted in the Navy and served his country from 1967 to 1970 aboard the USS Coral Sea. He was united in marriage to Sue Hawkins and to this union one daughter was born.
Cliff learned his trade at a technical school in Springfield, Missouri and was a self-employed heating and cooling contractor. Cliff’s customer calls were occasionally social visits as the repairs were so easy that he didn’t charge. He enjoyed playing softball with his friends for the “Bulls” even though they rarely won. He also enjoyed visiting and riding horses with his many friends. Later in life and before MS, he and Sue enjoyed the many antique show trips and new friends they made.
Cliff most treasured his time with family. He was preceded in death by his father, and his brother Charles. He is survived by his wife Sue, of the home, his mother, Erma D of Hermitage, Missouri, one daughter Lisa Creach Bolton (Loren) of Appleton City and one son Culley Creach (Collette) of Linn Creek, one sister Deborah Creach Allen (Nelson) of Urbana, Missouri, three grandchildren, Clifton Blake Bolton (Ashley), Jonas, and Stephanie Creach of Linn Creek, Missouri, two great-grandchildren Jaiden and Luke James Bolton. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge their deep appreciation for the compassionate care and companionship from Mindy Evans. The family would also like to thank all the many caretakers from Four Seasons, Hospice Compassus and others.

“Donnie” as he was known attended school in Nevada graduating with the Class of 1981 where he served as manager of the Nevada Tiger football team. For greater than fifteen years he was Owner/Operator of D & L Taxi in Nevada. He was well known for his caring personality and sense of humor - - - he was quite a comedian. When the weather was bad or people were down on their luck he would provide a cab ride free of charge for those in need. He enjoyed model trains in his spare time.
Survivors include his children, Kimberly Daggett of Fayetteville, AR; Pearl Daggett and Donald Daggett, Jr. both of Nevada; twin brother, Ron Daggett and brother, Floyd Daggett; nephews, David and “Dozer”; along with other extended family members and friends.
A Memorial Service for Donald Wayne Daggett, Sr. will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2016 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO. A visitation is scheduled from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. just prior to the service also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at a later date in Moore Cemetery in Nevada, MO.

Two arrested in pursuit, vehicle catches on fire, almost goes over a cliff in Vernon County

The pursuit lead deputy’s south of Nevada where a passenger fled on foot from the vehicle and was apprehended by a second deputy that was helping in the pursuit.
The driver then continued to flee in the vehicle. Additional deputies and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were called in to assist. According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, the vehicle fled east on K highway before turning onto gravel.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle drove into a driveway in the area of 2750 and Quartermaster and lost control. “The car almost went off of a small cliff but was stopped when it hit a small tree” said Mosher.
The Sheriff said deputies broke out the windows of the car to get the driver out who was still resisting. “She wouldn’t come out of the car even though it was on fire at the time and hanging off of a cliff.
” Mosher said the driver has been identified as Cody Jo Boyd, 30 of Nevada. Boyd had an active felony warrant for failure to obey a judge’s order.
Suspected methamphetamine's were also found in the vehicle. The name of the passenger has not been released pending the filing of formal charges.
The Sheriff said his office will be applying for additional charges in this case.

Rosa Lee Holland, age 86 of Butler, Missouri died Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at her home in Butler. She was born November 11, 1929 to George Washington and Stella May Cauthron Osborn in Archie, Missouri.
Rosa is survived by her husband Kenneth Leroy Holland of Butler, Missouri; one son, Mike Holland and wife Jackie of Butler, Missouri; three daughters, Vickie Richmond and husband Ike of Nevada, Missouri, Terry Morris and husband Charlie of Butler, Missouri and Twila Clubb of Independence, Missouri; one brother, George Osborn Jr. and wife Joan of Ft. Scott, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Ken, Dan, Chad, Katrina, Misty, Angie, Ryan and Heather; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Brad Morris; one brother, Virgil; and four sisters, Florence, Helen, Dorothy and Faye.
Cass County Sheriff's Regional Academy Set to Begin Classes

Updated Obituary - Dale Friederich
Dale Quentin Friederich was born on November 27, 1933 in rural Erie, Kansas and graduated from Erie High School in 1952. He met Patricia Jean Hilton in 1950 and they married in 1953, 10 days before he deployed to Korea for a year-long tour with the Army. He remained in the Army for three years then he and his family returned to Kansas where he earned an Associates Degree from Neosho County Community College.
He and his family moved to Butler in 1964 when he began working as a route salesman for Wonder Bread & Hostess Cakes and in 1995 retired after 30 years with the company. During his retirement he enjoyed fishing, watching sports and spending time with his family. He will be infinitely missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Friederich is survived by his wife Patricia Hilton Friederich, sister, Francie Seidl of Wichita, Kansas, and children Steven Friederich and wife Bonnie of O’Fallon, MO., Jeff Friederich and wife Barbara of Raytown, MO., Alecia Lawhorn and husband Andre’ of Mandeville, LA., Matt Friederich of Butler, MO., Anna Renae Friederich-Maggard and David Maggard of Lansing, KS., and grandchildren Cory Coates, Richard Friederich, James Friederich, Tricia Friederich-Cook, Tyler Friederich, and Ely and Aubrey Maggard and great grandchildren Faith Coates, Ally Cook, and Hope and Daniel Morris.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reinald and Christina Friederich, sisters Ellen Keenan, Irene McDonald, Alice (Sister Aloysia) Friederich, Virginia Lee Butts, Pauline Brigman, and brothers Raymond Friederich and John Friederich.

Harrisonville man arrested in Cass County
On 1/9/16 around 12:19 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County arrested 46 year old Don M. Arthur of Harrisonville, Missouri.
Mr. Arthur was arrested for 1.) Felony Cass County Warrant 2.) Two Misdemeanor Warrants (Grandview Police Department) 3.) Misdemeanor Independence Police Department Warrant 4.) Driving while revoked 5.) No seatbelt.
He was booked into the Cass County Jail and currently placed on No Bond.

Weather update: Frigid Sunday for all
One more thing....a band of snow is expected to move from southwest through central and east central MO on Saturday. There will be a sharp edge to the band with the northwest edge near a Clinton to Sedalia to Moberly line.
Could see 1/2" to 1" of snow from there to Fayette and Boonville. Heavier snows will be further east. Rest of the region trace amounts at best.
Missouri 291 bridge demolition to close I-49
Bridge demolition will close both north and southbound lanes of Interstate 49 at Missouri Highway 291 while crews remove the Highway 291 Bridge in Harrisonville beginning Friday night, Jan. 8 until 10 a.m. Sunday morning, Jan. 10. All interstate traffic will be diverted around the closure using the Route 291 exit ramps.

Karon Kay Tritico, 75, Nevada, MO, passed away on January 5, 2016 at her home in Nevada following a lengthy illness. Karon was born on August, 28, 1940 in Marysville, KS to Arthur and Betty Andrews. She was united in marriage to Joseph Tritico of Raytown, MO and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include three children, Debra Fales and David Cady, Raytown, MO, Jaime Odom and his fiancé, Terisa DeNegre, of the home, and Michelle Bowman of Independence, MO; eight grandchildren, Jerry Stipancich, Amber Bowman, Andrew Konopasek, Austin Konopasek, Cole Wiederhold, Adam Konopasek, Cassidy Millee Rae Odom, and Abby Konopasek; nine great-grandchildren; Karen is also survived by one sister, Earlene Tosspon and her husband, Carl of Sedalia, MO; one nephew Clint Tosspon, Independence, MO; one niece, Kim Caldwell, Trenton, MO. In addition to her husband Joseph, Karon was preceded in death by her parents, one nephew, Carl Lee Tosspon, and one great-granddaughter, Jaiden Elizabeth Stipancich.
A memorial service will be held from 2- 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at New Covenant Ministries, 532 S. Main St., Independence, MO.

Frieda, along with her family, came to Vernon County at the age of 16. She attended school in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School. Following her marriage she and her husband lived in Augusta, KS from 1955 until 1973. At that time they moved back to the family farm in Deerfield where Frieda continued to reside until she moved into Nevada five years ago. Frieda was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and a longtime member of the Ellis Domestic Science Club.
Survivors include her children, Joy Edwards and her husband Gary, Wamego, KS, Bruce Pettibon and his wife Beth, Moundville, MO, Stephen Pettibon and his wife Sandra, Nevada, Loretta Doubledee, Grain Valley, MO, and Luanne Palmer, Nixa, MO; 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Birkestrand, Nevada, MO. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Madeline Rinehart.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2015 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. Interment will follow in Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, MO. The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Clinton man injured in early morning Henry County crash
On 1/8/16 around 6:15 a.m. the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County responded to a one vehicle accident on Missouri 13 Highway at Route M in rural Henry County.The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by 37 year old Joshua N. Trent of Clinton, Missouri failed to stop at the intersection of 13 Highway and Route M causing the vehicle to travel off the East side of the roadway and onto a private drive before striking a gate and tree.
Mr. Trent sustained minor injuries in this accident and was transported by private vehicle to Golden Valley Hospital in Clinton, Missouri.
The vehicle received extensive damage in this accident and was towed from the scene by Golden Valley Wrecker Service.

William Karl "W. K." Jenkins, 91, Adrian, Missouri, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at his home. Masonic services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Adrian United Methodist Church in Adrian with funeral to follow. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, VFW Post 1935, or Butler Masonic Lodge #254 AF&AM. W. K. was born May 11, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Hubert Alexander and Dallas Ince Jenkins. He lived with his grandparents near Crescent Hill, north of Adrian, and graduated from Adrian High School. At an early age, he developed his business skills by trapping rabbits and selling eggs. W. K. bought his first farm at the age of 19. On December 10, 1944 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, he was united in marriage to his wife of 71 years, Mary Earlene Robinson. To this union 6 children were born.
W. K. served his country in World War II in the Merchant Marines and saw action on “D”Day at the initial invasion of Normandy. He spoke little of his military service but injured his shoulder during service at Normandy. He began his career as a journeyman carpenter and worked for Safeway stores and later at Allied Signal (Bendix) for 35 years. He began his career in ranching raising registered Hereford cattle. He purchased a new John Deere A with a 2 bottom plow in the early 1950’s.
W. K’s humble childhood gave him a desire to work hard, to succeed and to value a college education which he did not have the financial means to acquire. He listed among his greatest achievements that each of his 6 children were graduates of the University of Missouri-Columbia. He instilled in his children the values of hard work, determination, and critical thinking. He achieved much in life by his relentless energy and sheer determination. This drive to succeed, work hard, and stay busy, was with him his entire life. He had activities and goals planned that would have taken years to accomplish.
In later years, when he spent less time on his business ventures, he devoted many hours to the Masonic Lodge, Adrian and the VFW Post #1935. W. K. was the unofficial humorist. The habit of telling stories got him into trouble more than once with his wife. He was a truly unique individual that saw the world from his own perspective.
W. K. Jenkins was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Barbara Jenkins, brothers, Fred Jenkins and John Jenkins. He is survived by his wife, Earlene Jenkins, of the home; children, Karl Jenkins of Rich Hill, Robert Jenkins and wife, Kris of Rich Hill, Mary Anne Green and husband, Steve of Adrian, Karla Jenkins Wilson and husband, Trent of Butler, Hugh Jenkins and wife, Marcia of Butler, Patricia Inglish and husband, Mike of California, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Jerry Jenkins and wife, Betty of Bartlett,Tennessee.
Former Butler man arrested for drug possession in Nevada

“We served a search warrant at this house a while back, but drugs are still coming out of it so we started working on it again” said Mosher.
The Sheriff said suspected methamphetamines, scales, and small plastic baggies commonly used for packaging for sales were all located in the home. Fosters bond has been set by the courts at $10,000 cash or surety.

Mr. Randal “Randy” Foote, 59, formerly of Butler, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Mullinax Funeral Home in Butler, Missouri (660-679-0009). Visitation from 10:30am – 12:00 prior to funeral services at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler. Randal Dean “Randy” Foote was born October 26, 1956 in Butler, Missouri, son of LaVerne and Alice (Everett) Foote. He attended school in Butler and graduated Butler High School in the class of 1975. He played trumpet in his school years and, notably, received a certificate from Clark Terry, calling Randy the trumpet player with the most potential. Randy was also a member of the National Honor Society.
When Randy was 16 he began working at the NAPA store in Butler when it was owned by his uncles Tommy and Richard Everett. He moved on to work in and manage many different NAPA stores throughout the Kansas City metro area. At the time of his passing he was working at the NAPA fleet store in the Kansas City Water Department. Randy enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and watching MU sports, but is no doubt best remembered for his love of the Kansas City Chiefs, being a season ticket holder for 22 years. It can be said that Randy liked to have fun; “he never liked to leave the party!”
He was preceded in death by his father and a niece, Rebecca Foote. He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Foote of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Jessica and Randy had a very special father/daughter relationship. She was his very best friend. He was proud of her accomplishments and whatever Jessica did became a part of his life also. Her friends were his friends. Her likes were his, and they shared an unconditional love that never ends. He is further survived by his mother, Alice Trammell; brothers Rex Foote and Russell Foote; the Shreve family; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many close friends.

Semi truck wreck blocking I-49 in Vernon County

The Missouri State Highway Patrol in Vernon County is currently on scene of a semi truck accident in the Southbound Lanes of I-49 just South of the Compton Junction Exit North of Nevada.
We are hearing that the semi truck is laying East to West across the highway and traffic is being rerouted at this time. Expect delays with this accident.

Eddie was born June 25, 1957 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of James William and Georgianna (Sutherland) Bellis. He was a 1975 graduate of Butler High School. He married Deborah Jean Gunnels on August 21, 1976 in Butler. Eddie owned Bellis Construction from 1985-2005. He also owned Ed’s Hardware from 2005-2012 and E&D Storage from 1991 until present. He enjoyed building things with his hands and traveling with his family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Archie.
Eddie was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Billie Wentz. He is survived by his wife, Debbie, of the home; one son, Jason Bellis, Archie; one brother, Jerry Bellis, Overland Park, Kansas, and 4 grandchildren, Blake Hunter, Skylar Bellis, Callie Bellis and Bailey Bellis.
