One person died in an accident on Dec. 12 in Johnson County on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks at marker 222.5 west of County Road SW 301.
A 2002 GE Union Pacific Train, operated by Michael L. Webb, 44, Lee’s Summit, was westbound. The engineer observed a pedestrian sitting on the tracks and attempted to stop the train, which was unsuccessful.
The pedestrian sitting on the tracks, Joseph M. Johnson, 29, Warrensburg, was pronounced dead at the scene by Johnson County Coroner C.L. Holdren at 10:15 a.m. The body was transported to Sweeny, Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home.
Missouri Highway Patrol Trooper J.T. Langsdale investigated the accident and was assisted by Trooper J.W. Miller, CVETS, Sergeant K.M. Fisher, Sgt. M.P. Fennewald and Union Pacific Railroad Police.
