Florence Marie Todd Edmonson, 86, Walnut Grove, Missouri, formerly of Harrisonville/Peculiar, Missouri, passed away Sunday morning, January 18, 2015 at her daughter's home in Willard, Missouri. Funeral services in Willard will be held 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Willard, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Funeral services in Harrisonville, Missouri will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.
Florence Marie Coleman, was born at home on November 19, 1928, the fourth of five children, born to Robert William and Gladys Marie (Garten) Coleman, II. She grew up on the family farm and attended a one-room school, Knight Rural School #70, from 1932-1942. She was a 1946 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. Florence married Almus Layfayette Todd, Jr. on September 19, 1948, and celebrated nearly 59 years of marriage before his death in 2007.
Florence was a homemaker until her children were grown, and also enjoyed teaching preschool and Sunday school during these years. She was a long-term church pianist for Coleman Baptist Church. The church is still in existence and was built by her great-grandfather, Dr. Robert Goodwin Coleman, Jr., along with other Coleman community members. At age 50, she began employment for Marion Laboratories, where she worked until retirement. Florence and A.L. moved to the Willard, Missouri area in 2003, enjoying retirement and being closer to their grandchildren, until A.L.’s death in 2007. Florence married Charles Edmonson in 2011, residing with him in Walnut Grove, Missouri, until her death.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, A.L. Todd, Jr., siblings, Buford Coleman and Catherine Coleman Lawler, and a grandson, Matthew Almus Todd. She is survived by her second husband, Charles Edmonson; older brother, R. W. “June” Coleman and wife, Jackie, and a younger brother, Larry E. Coleman and wife, Julie. Also surviving are her four children and their families: daughter, Patricia Mae Radde, son, Michael Allen Todd and wife, Judy, son, Steven Robert Todd and Sioux Hopkins, daughter, Elizabeth Ann Robinson and husband, Jerry. Her grandchildren include Sheridan Radde and wife, Annette and family, Matt Radde, and wife, Desi, and family, along with Cassandra, Jake, and Jenna Robinson. Her extended family includes great-grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, cousins, many dear friends, and all of the children her heart touched, young or old.
