THEFT-BUTLER Deputies took a report by telephone in regards to threatening phone calls in the rural Butler MO. area.
PAPER SERVICE- Deputies made an outstanding misdemeanor warrant arrest on Lynn Morris in the Butler area.

TRANSPORT- Timmy Kidd was arrested on an outstanding Bates County warrant.

AGENCY ASSIST-BUTLER I assisted Butler Police on a Domestic Disturbance. A male subject was taken in to custody for domestic assault.

CHECK WELL BEING Deputies responded to Rural Amsterdam in reference to a runaway juvenile. The juvenile was located and released to his father.

THEFT-AMSTERDAM- Sheriff's Office was informed of a theft that occurred sometime in November or December of 2010 in rural Adrian.  The reporting party was contacted and a report was taken.

ANIMAL DEAD-RICH HILL Deputies responded to the rural Rich Hill MO. area in regards to possible animal abuse.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY  Deputies responded to a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane of 71 Hwy coming from Adrian, Missouri. Deputies were able to get the vehicle stopped about 11/2 miles north of Butler. The driver was placed under arrest for DWI. There are more charges pending.

BURGLARY-BUTLER  Bates County Sheriff's Office was contacted about a possible burglary in rural Butler.  A Deputy arrived and took a burglary report.

TRAFFIC STOP Deputies stopped a vehicle for traffic violations and the driver was found to have two active warrants.  He was arrested and transported to the Jail.

Elks set for April BBQ contest

Kings and Queens of the backyard BBQ prepare to face off April 8th and 9th at the Bates County Elks Lodge BBQ contest. Here is everything you to need to know:

Entry fee is $50, first place in each event pays $50. Fires must be fueled by wood, wood pellets or charcoal.

Friday, April 8th:
Meat will be inspected upon arrival.
Cooks meeting will be held at 6 p.m.
Dinner 7 p.m. - cost will be a free will donation

Saturday, April 9th
11:00 a.m. - Peoples choice- meat will be provided
12:00 p.m. - open
12:30 p.m. - chicken
1:00 p.m. - pork ribs
1:30 p.m. - pork butt
2:00 p.m. - dessert
3:00 p.m. - awards

Added fun - bingo will be played both Friday night (starting 7:30 p.m.) and Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.

All events are open to the public at the Elks Lodge located just North of Mill street on Elks drive in Butler.

FF highway will be closed for maintenance this week

A stretch of FF highway between 18 highway and F highway in Northwestern Bates County will be closed this Wednesday and Thursday (the 30th and 31st) for maintenance and surface repair. Homeowners along FF will have access to their homes, otherwise it will be closed to thru traffic.

Obituary - Bill Estes

Funeral services for Billie "Bill" D. Estes of Butler, Missouri will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel (660-679-6555) in Butler with Gary Schowengerdt officiating. Visitation, 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at the Schowengerdt Chapel. Burial, Virginia Cemetery, Virginia, Missouri. Contributions, Butler Public Library.

Billie "Bill" Drew Estes, age 75 of Butler, Missouri died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. He was born January 10, 1936 to Ollie Richard and Hazel Akins Estes in Butler.


Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Estes of Butler, Missouri; one son, Stephen Estes and companion Roberta Dixon of Ithaca, New York; four daughters, Christina McGrath and companion Don Pippin, Melanie Wallace and Shelly Thompson and husband John all of Butler, Missouri and Billie Jean Kooker and husband Shane of Adrian, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Blake, and a great-granddaughter Hannah.
