Medicare Part D enrollment deadline Dec. 7th

Miranda Parks Marketing Director for Medicalodge of Butler in now taking appointments during the open enrollment period of October 15th through December 7th. The enrollment will assist you in enrolling in a Medicare part D plan. If you are not sure you have the best plan for you, Miranda can quickly check it for you with no obligation to enroll.

The deadline has changed this year- you do not have until December 31st. The 2011 Medicare part D plan is open until December 7th. Make plans to enroll today deadline December 7th.

Rich Hill FCCLA sponsoring Powder Puff football game this Friday

The Rich Hill High School FCCLA is sponsoring a Powder Puff Football game on Friday night, Oct. 28. The game starts at 6 p.m. at the high school field. The Junior and Senior girls are opposing the Freshman and Sophomore girls, with the 8th grade girls playing where needed. Rich Hill football players and male FCCLA members will be the cheer squad. This game is dubbed "Fighting For the Cure". Shirts have been sold to help support the cause.

The Freshman/Sophomore coaches are Junior Josh Robb, son of Leon and Kelley Robb and Sophomore Trever Norbury, son of Douglas and Denise Norbury. Jr./Senior coaches are Senior Jarius Beckett, son of Reverend John and Alica Beckett and Senior Spencer Gould, son of Shaun and Michelle Gould. Coaching sponsors are Lynn Morgan, RHHS history instructor, Jr. High Boys and assistant High School boy coach with Brian Gillis, RHHS vocational AG instructor.

October is breast cancer awareness month. To honor members of Bates County who have dealt with this disease, all proceeds from this event will be donated to various cancer causes. $2.00 is the cost of admission for anyone over 4 years old. At halftime, cancer survivers from the audience will be lead to the field to participate in the show. All community members are welcome.

Grass fire just South of Butler

Butler Fire and neighboring departments are on the scene of a grass fire along South Main street near CR 504. With extremely dry conditions and high winds, the fire is posing an eminent threat to some structures in the area.

Use caution if driving in the area and watch for emergency vehicles.

Oct 24 - Stolen trailer at Super 8; animal complaint in the 500 block of N. Havana; disturbance in the 500 block of N. Delaware; donkey loose near Nursery and Bus. 71; alarm in the 500 block of W. Dakota.

Over $800 collected for injured Drexel football players

A big thank you to the Butler Bears and Sherwood Marksmen fans as $859 was collected last Friday night at the football game. This will go to the families of Trevor Cooley and Chris Moles, the two Drexel football players that were injured in a car accident on October 15th.

Rick Plunkett created the decals which were placed on the helmets of the Bears - #2 for Trevor Cooley and #69 for Chris Moles. Donation buckets will also be at the Adrian/Butler game this Thursday night and all the proceeds will be going to the families as well.
