Bates County Sheriffs Office: Stolen Cattle

On 07-03-2014 around 730 this morning a Bates County farmer, located just outside of Butler, two miles south of 52 highway  on K highway, checked on his cattle and found them all to be present.  A few hours later the same farmer noticed his cows had been moved and herded into his corral with the gate shut.

The Sheriff’s Office believes that someone herded the cattle into the corral, with the intent to return and steal the cattle at a later time. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help in watching their neighborhoods to observe suspicious activity.  If you observe activity that you find unusual then please contact the Sheriff’s Office and we will send a deputy to identify the party’s involved.

Observant neighbors are the most important tool when it comes to preventing crimes like Burglary and thefts.  As we are seeing cattle prices reach historically high prices, law enforcement has begun to see cattle thefts on the rise.

If you have any information about this please contact the Bates County Sheriff’s Office at 660-679-3232
