The accident occurred when the 1995 GMC Sierra driven by 25 year old Wesley M. Hays of Pleasanton, Kansas was traveling Southbound when he crossed the centerline of the roadway and struck the Northbound 2005 Ford Taurus driven by 65 year old Larry L. Berry of Hume, Missouri head on.
Wesley M. Hays was transported by Life Flight Eagle to Mercy Hospital in Joplin with Serious injuries. Larry L. Berry was transported to Mercy Hospital in Ft. Scott, Kansas by Bates County EMS were he was pronounced dead at 23:56 hours. A passenger in the Berry vehicle 20 year old Robert C. Berry of Hume, Missouri was treated at the scene by Bates County EMS for minor injuries. Both vehicles was totaled and towed from the scene by Gilkey's Tow of Rich Hill, Mo
