Wilder Charles Moffett, 85 of Drexel passed away peacefully May 17, 2011.
He was born February 4, 1926 in Lexington, Mo., son of Wilder and Leta Lorine (Verden) Moffett.
He married Eva Lucille Wright April 1, 1949. They resided in Grandview, Mo., for many years while he was employed at Wilcox Electric, where he was a spray-painter who often worked on military airplanes. He continued this occupation for more than 30 years until he retired at the age of 62. Charles and Lucille were divorced after 32 years. After retirement he moved to Lake Chaparral to enjoy a couple years of relaxing and fishing. Boredom struck Charles, and he then moved to Blue Mound, Ks., where he bought an old building and turned it into a bar at the age of 71 while thinking he would not have to pay taxes past age 70. To his great disappointment he learned this was not true. This, along with declining health, finally motivated him to sell. Then at the age of 75, his daughter finally forced him to move into senior housing in Drexel so she could watch over him more.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Billy Joe, and one daughter Linda Arlene. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Tina and Clifton Thompson; two grand-daughters Jennifer (Ryan) and Rachael; one great-grandson Hunter; and one great-granddaughter Hailee. He also leaves behind a son, Billy Moffett and his family. He is also survived by one brother Richard Moffett (Betty), sister Sue Lowe; and sister Kay Mansell.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 19 from 5-6 PM at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel (816) 657-4400. A funeral service will be at 6:00 PM. Following the service Charles will be cremated and inurnment will be at 11 AM Saturday, May 21 at Belton Cemetery, Belton, Mo. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Midwest, and may be left in care of the funeral home.
