Bates County Museum Is The Place To Be Tomorrow

Event Reminder:
Order No. 11 ~ 150th Commemoration
Saturday, August 24th, 10:00 am
Bates County Museum, 802 Elks Dr., Butler, MO

3 feet long.  2 feet wide.  3 feet high.  A cabin replica made of cardboard, twigs, bark and twine will be ‘torched’ by Union soldiers.  Will it burn?  Come join us to witness the burning as we commemorate the evacuation and burning order of August 1863 that forever changed Bates County.  Festivities begin at 10:00 am in Robertson Hall.  Music by Hank Roberts.  Hear about Papinville and the Barrows family.  Learn of General Thomas Ewing’s Bates County connection.  Be swept into the past as Civil War Re-enactors present a ‘March of Refugees’ followed by the burning of the cabin.  A free will donation lunch of smoked hamburgers and the fixin’s will follow.
