The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”.
The Miami Student of the Month is Forrest Routen. Forrest, a 10th Grader, is the son of Shelly and Forrest Routen, Sr. In school he participates in FFA, basketball, and track. He also works on the farm and finds time to work on his truck. Forrest states “My family has encouraged me to do the best I can.” He plans to join the military after graduation. Miami staff states “Forrest is an individual who works hard to ensure others are considered before himself. In addition he works to better himself on a daily basis.”
The Ballard Student of the Month for September is Samantha Walsh, senior daughter of Dan and Karla Walsh. Technology Director, Cheryl Murchie, states “Sam is an outstanding student, has a great personality, and is a great role model for her fellow classmates. Sam is willing to help her fellow students if they need it. Although Sam is a great team player, she can step forward and become team leader as well. As a senior, Sam will be doing a juggling act with her studies, sports, extra-curricular activities and the dreaded scholarships, but I know she will get through this with her own quiet style.”
