Susan Anderson and Myrtle Patrick asked permission to hold a 5k run for the Butler Saddle Club instead of a parade. Anderson informed Council the Saddle Club gave the Bates County Memorial Hospital proceeds of $2,000 last year which will be used for the free mammogram program at the hospital. Council approved the request and the Butler Police Department was given a copy of the route of the walk/run or ride which will take place on Saturday, June 20th beginning at the Butler Fair Grounds.
Josh Hagberg, Butler Alumni President came before Council to ask permission for the alumni parade this Saturday, May 23rd. When asked, Butler Police Chief Randy Beshore said all he could do would be to post it, the Department likes at least 2 weeks before an event to line up the personnel to work the parade.
Casey Koehn, Butler City Administrator told Council that she and Elizabeth Ogg, Bates County Economic Developer, held a conference call with MC Power regarding the two signs currently on the highway but not being used to our advantage. She presented two preliminary drawings regarding the signs but nothing has been decided and she would update at a later time.
Brad Vermaas, representing First Baptist Church asked permission to use part of the Butler Fair Grounds to shoot an upcoming drama film. It will be close to the brush pile and a walk through will be on May 30th and the filming itself will be on Saturday, June 6th. He also informed Council that they would be shooting a gun loaded with blanks during the filming and wanted everyone to know this in case anyone became alarmed. Chief Beshore said he would let his department know what was happening but since it was on a Saturday, no children playing ball should be in the area. Councilman Vermaas also expressed his appreciation to the Police and Electric Department for their quick response when a 70 foot tree fell on a neighbor’s property.
Butler Police Department applied and received a $1,000 grant from Enbridge Pipeline.
