Overnight Storms Cause Flooding Around The County

While no tornadoes or high winds have been reported, parts of Bates County saw golf ball sized hail and heavy rain overnight. Reports vary, but total amounts range from a max of 3 to around 4 1/2 inches of precipitation which has resulted in flooded basements and a few folks having to detour around water in low lying areas.

Quarter to golf ball sized hail hit the ground near Foster, Hume, Adrian and Drexel. Fortunately, other parts of the county received smaller sized pea to penny sized hail.

Early in the evening, the approaching storm which developed near Coffeyville, KS appeared to split, sending the bulk of it mostly around Bates County causing a few warnings to pop up mostly in Cass County. However, in case you slept through it, the bulk of rain came in the overnight hours resulting in full ditches and swollen waterways.

And it's not over yet. Look for mostly cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms developing this afternoon. Some of the storms may become severe. Damaging winds, large hail, and possibly tornadoes are expected for our area. High of 78 with additional rain chances around 40%. There's a 30% chance of isolated storms tomorrow.

Remember- If you don't like Missouri weather, just wait. And Bates County Live will always keep you posted as updates becomes available.
