Yesterday morning at approximately 7:10 A.M., Clinton Police Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South Third Street in reference to a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon arrival, officers contacted the uncle of the victim who stated that he was awakened by what sounded like a gunshot.
The uncle then checked on his 17 year old nephew and found that he had apparently shot himself in the head. The relative then called 911. Shortly thereafter police and an ambulance arrived at the residence.
The 17 year old man was transported to the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital Trauma Center where he died. A death investigation into the matter is being conducted by the Clinton Police Department in conjunction with Henry County Coroner Dain Sisk. This death will also be reviewed by the Henry County Child Fatality Review Panel.
