FairPoint Communications has a widespread phone outage that includes the cities of Peculiar, Cleveland, Garden City, East Lynne, Drexel and Creighton. This appears to be a landline issue only which means customers in those cities will not be able to dial 9-1-1.
Celluar coverage is operational however increased usage may impact availability. Residents are asked to contact the Cass County Sheriff's Office non-emergency line 816-380-5200 or 9-1-1 by cell phone if they have a need for Police, Fire, or EMS.
The Sheriffs office is working to establish local emergency contact numbers for each community for residents without celluar devices. Those numbers will be released when established. FairPoint is working on fixing the problem but could not provide a timeline for the fix.
