On Tuesday, September 28, 2010, the Board of Directors of Bates County Memorial Hospital buried a new time capsule. The hospital celebrated 50 years of dedicated healing service to the community beginning when it first opened its doors on September 16, 1960. To preserve history, the time capsule was made to be opened in another 50 years – September, 2060. The time capsule contains photos of many employees, volunteers, physicians, and Board Members. Also included are copies of area newspapers, post cards, Auxiliary Recipe Book, a CD of the 1960’s, a wooden Inpatient Chart Binder, a VHS tape, and a video containing a video-tour of the hospital, and may other items. Pictured with the time capsule are hospital Board members from left to right: Patti Bruto, Rusty Hamilton, Senator Harold Caskey, Jerry Jones, and Jim Shade. Pictured placing the time capsule in the ground is Wendell Harris, hospital Chief Executive Officer, with Jim Shade looking on.
