The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office said 41-year-old Maxwell F. Blanchard, Jr. faces one count of second-degree statutory sodomy, a Class C felony under Missouri law, a press release said.
According to court documents, Blanchard is accused of a sexual encounter prosecutors said happened over the weekend. The incident was revealed when the victim's mother found text messages on her daughter's phone.
The former Cass County deputy sheriff's accuser is a family friend's 14-year-old daughter. Investigators believe the incident happened at his home in Belton, MO.
Jackson County Prosecutors filed the criminal charge because Cass County prosecutors didn't want to handle the case because Blanchard is a Cass County deputy. Blanchard's bond was set at $25,000 cash.
