Obituary - James Alich McMillin Sr.

Memorial services for Jim McMillin will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Mullinax Funeral Home (660-679-0009) in Butler, Missouri with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. Visitation prior to services, 9:00 – 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow services in Osaga Cemetery, Fulton, Kansas. James Alich McMillin Sr., 87 of Butler, Missouri passed away at Medicalodge in Butler January 26, 2014. He had been in failing health the past three years.

Jim was born to Otha and Una Pearl McMillin in rural Brownington, Missouri on March 12, 1926. After attending rural schools, he served in the Army during World War II with a Cavalry unit, and later as an M.P. After his service, he served on the Clinton Police Department, Clinton, Missouri, and later joined the Millwright Union where he became a business agent for the Union before retiring. He was an auctioneer from age 12, enjoying many auctions and making friends with everyone along the way. Jim had also been a maintenance man at Butler Rural Housing in Butler for 11 years, and spent time as a mail contractor in Fort Scott, Kansas.

Jim was united in marriage to Maggie Lay on November 4, 1976. He was preceded in death by six brothers: Everett, Gene, Chester, Robert, James, and Pforna; and two sisters: Ora and Maxine; and one stepson, David Carrel. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Maggie McMillin of Butler; stepdaughter and caregiver Kim Carrel & spouse Terry Murphy of Kansas City, Missouri; stepson Larry Carrel of Butler; son Jim Jr. and wife Isabel; four daughters, Barbara and husband Bill Hayden, Pearl and husband Jess “Buzz” Pittman, Janice and husband Denver Simmons, all of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Debbie and husband Dennis Minich of Harrisonville, Missouri. Jim also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
