LV “Junior” Brown Jr., 88, son of LV and Gracie Lola (McDavitt) Brown Sr. was born November 9, 1926 in Bates County, Missouri on the family farm that his grandfather homesteaded after the Civil War in 1866. He passed away at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home in Appleton City, Missouri on Monday, November 10, 2014.

Growing up, Junior attended McDavitt Elementary which was a small country school. He then attended and graduated from Appleton City High School. After graduation, he was drafted in the United States Army and served in the medical corps until his honorable discharge.

Junior was united in marriage to Wilma Marie Nichols on June 12, 1947 at the Baptist parsonage in Appleton City, Missouri. Junior was a member of the Round Prairie Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years.

Junior owned Brown Insurance Company and sold insurance around his kitchen table for over 50 years. He was also a school board member for Hudson R-9 for many years as well as Bates County ASCS Committeeman for a 12 year term, which was the most he could serve.

Although Junior enjoyed serving on various boards, his true love was farming on his Century Farm, raising row crops and Black Angus cattle. He enjoyed running his bulldozer, cleaning up brush for himself or anyone else that needed help. He also enjoyed riding horses.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to him. They would all agree that he was a good cook because he made many poached eggs, cracker jacks and popped corn for them and they always looked forward to eating them.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Anita McClellan and Alice Davis; brother, John Harold Brown and granddaughter, Cheyanna Koshko.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Brown; children: Carolyn Hellwig (Bob), Wayne Brown (Nancy G.), Steve Brown (Brenda) and Donald Brown (Nancy J.); grandchildren: Jeremy Brown (Tracy), Heidi Braning (Tom), Kaleb Hellwig (Jody), Crystal Dennis (Bobby), Cody Brown (Amanda), Candace Patton (John), Benjamin Brown and Rachel Brown; great-grandchildren: Judd and Reegan Koshko, Kinley and Kie Hellwig, Izabella Dennis, and Jackson Braning.

Junior was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
