Obituary - Russell H. Chandler

Russell H. Chandler, 89 of Butler, Missouri passed away February 23, 2015 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, February 27, 2015 at Mullinax Funeral Home (660-679-0009) in Butler. Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler. Contributions are suggested to the Bates County Elks Scholarship Fund, and are being received at the funeral home. Russell Henry Chandler was born August 4, 1925 in Butler, Missouri, son of Marion Thomas and Tiny Florence (Chaney) Chandler. He attended the Lost Corner Grade School and graduated from Butler High School. Following school, Russell served four years in the U.S. Navy, crossing the equator in his travels. Russell was united in marriage to Marjorie Mae Camerer on July 18, 1943. He and Marjorie were heavily involved in the McGinnis Youth Center in Rich Hill, Missouri, as well as 4-H, where they served as club leaders.

Russell also served on the board of directors for the Mid-America Dairy Association, and traveled yearly to the national locations all over the U.S. He operated a farm and dairy all of his working years, and also worked for a time at Rice Implement in Butler. He was a charter member and honorary lifetime member of the Bates County Elks Lodge No. 2653. He was a longtime member of the Butler Saddle Club, and notably Russell was the last surviving member of the New Hope Baptist Church.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; an infant son; and another son, Tommy Chandler; two brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by son Wesley Chandler and wife Janie of Butler; son Jim Chandler and wife Marty of Hume, Missouri; son Scott Chandler and wife Debby of Butler; seven grandsons, and four granddaughters; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Zella Rose Doane of Butler; as well as numerous family members.
