Around 8:50 a.m. This Morning the Missouri State Highway Patrol along with The Bates County Sheriffs Office, Bates County EMS all responded to a 2 vehicle fatality accident at Route B Highway and County Road 365 just East of the Rich Hill City limits.The accident occurred when the 1998 Ford F150 driven by 24 year old Alisa N. Swarens of Rich Hill, Missouri was Eastbound on Route B when a 2000 Ford Winstar van driven by 83 year old Hazel Smith also of Rich Hill, Missouri turned left into the path of the Swarens Vehicle and was struck in the side.
Hazel Smith was pronounced dead at The Bates County Memorial Hospital, Alisa Swarens refused medical treatment at the scene. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.
