Vernon County teen arrested after vehicle pursuit

A Vernon County resident is in custody following the issuance of warrants that stemmed from a vehicle pursuit last weekend. According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was patrolling the area of 1413 Rd. where a truck had recently been stolen. The truck had been recovered, but deputies had found a bumper from a car with a license plate on it that had been left in the back of the truck when it was recovered.

Early Saturday morning (July 4th) the deputy patrolling the area noticed a vehicle with an expired tag. The deputy also noticed the tag matched the tag that was found on the bumper in the back of the stolen truck. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle and the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued to the Richards area and then came to an end on 54 Hwy near Deerfield.

When the vehicle came to a stop, the driver got out of the car with a baseball bat. After a short struggle, the driver was taken into custody by deputies. The driver has been identified as 17 year old Trey M Stone of Vernon County. According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, warrants have been issued charging Stone with Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Carless and Imprudent Driving. Stone is being held in the Vernon County Jail with total bonds of $6,500 cash only. The Sheriff also said a female passenger was in the vehicle and is facing minor charges. When asked if Stone could face charges regarding the stolen truck, Sheriff Mosher said he could not comment on that case because it was still under investigation.
