Leonette Christine Hammontree, age 37 of Nevada, MO passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 in Nevada. She was born June 8, 1976 to Kenneth Leon, Jr. and Linda Paulette (Sewell) Chesnut and was the light their lives. On May 10, 1995 she was united in marriage to Joseph William Hammontree and he survives of the home. Together the couple became parents of two children.
Leonette attended school in Nevada graduating with the Class of 1994. She went on to also receive an Associate’s Degree in General Studies. For many years she worked as a Teacher’s Aide for the State School and also for a time worked in the family business, but her heart was always with the children of the school. She was a longtime member of the Nevada Eagles Lodge, an Eagle Rider, a Girl Scout leader, and was both a Football and Band Mom. She loved scrapbooking, collecting “Goofy” memorabilia, and had been an avid bowler in the past. Her most loved pastime was riding motorcycles. Leonette was known to be someone that always found a way to help people. She volunteered for many community benefits and helped for many years with Vernon County Relay for life.
Aside from her husband and parents, Leonette is survived by her two children, Kelsey Dawn Hammontree and Jacob William Hammontree both of the home; two brothers, Kenneth (Buddy) Leon Chesnut, III and his wife Amanda of Nevada; and Kasey Lon Chesnut and his wife Carol of Nevada; her father and mother-in-law Donald and Marjorie Hammontree of El Dorado Springs; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mike and Penny Shrimplin of Nevada; grandfather Kenneth Leon Chesnut, Sr. of Nevada; grandmother-in-law Lela Withrow of Nevada; nieces Cynthia and Lorelei; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
A memorial service for Leonette Christine Hammontree is scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Ferry Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. just prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a Celebration of Life scheduled at the Nevada Eagles Lodge at a later date.
Those who wish may contribute in her name to a college fund for her children in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
