Vernon County Sheriffs Office Press Release: Early Morning Pursuit Send Nevada Man to Jail‏

An early morning pursuit ended with the arrest of a Nevada resident Tuesday. According to a press release from the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, a 1985 Chevy truck had been driving around in the median on I-49 near the Sheldon exit early Tuesday morning. When a Sheriff’s Deputy approached, the truck took off heading the wrong way on I-49 and continued to flee from deputies around the southeast part of the county. A supervisor was then notified who monitored the conditions of the pursuit. The truck headed East on E Highway and entered into Cedar County where it turned North on 96 Highway. The truck was hit with spike strips by the Missouri State Highway Patrol shortly after turning onto 96 Highway but continued to try and outrun the deputy’s despite having several tires deflated. Deputy’s and the Highway Patrol continued to pursue the truck until it turned down a dead end road in Cedar County. The driver, whose name has not yet been released was taken into custody at that time. According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said the driver is being charged with numerous traffic violations including DWI, driving in the wrong direction, failure to stop for an emergency vehicle, exceeding the posted speed limit as well as other traffic violations. Mosher said the speeds of the pursuit were under constant observation. “We were monitoring the speeds and locations of the pursuit the entire time. Pursuits are always a hard decision to make.” The Sheriff said this was not a high speed pursuit. Cedar County Deputies who arrived on scene turned custody of the suspect over to Vernon County. The suspect is being held on an investigative hold pending the filing of formal charges.
