Jean Karolat faces additional charges in animal hoarding case

Jean Karolat, 50, is headed to back to court to face additional charges in a rural Bates County animal hoarding case. On January 31st, law enforcement and the Humane Society removed 38 dogs, 18 cats and a bird from her property northwest of Butler. Karolat was arrested and charged with a Class A Misdemeanor as the animals were being kept in unsanitary and unhealthy conditions.

While Karolat has taken her case to the Western District Appeals Court in Kansas City, she still faces eight criminal charges for animal abuse in the Bates County Circuit Court. A pre-trial conference is set for April 25th.
