James Barker
A tip to the Bates County Sheriff's Office led to the arrest of James S. The sheriff's department was assisted by the Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force in the investigation.

During a search of the home at 422 S. 5th St., the WMCCTF took custody of a computer and approximately 20 data storage devices, where an initial exam of the computer revealed multiple pictures of child pornography and child erotica.

The computer has been turned over to the Heart of America Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory and the data storage devices have been examined by the WMCCTF. So far more than 5,500 pictures have been identified as child pornography or child erotica.

The investigation continues and more charges are expected to be filed by the Bates County Prosecutor, Hugh Jenkins.

Barker was transported to the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Possession of Child Pornography with bond set at $250,000.00.

Copies of the child pornography have been sent to the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children. The Child Victim Identification Program assist law enforcement agencies in rescuing the child victim depicted in images from their abusers. “Until they are located and identified these children may continue to be abused,” says Sheriff Anderson. “Our first priority is to work with the experts in identifying these innocent children and preventing these horrific crimes of child pornography to continue.”
