Robert Eugene Herman, Sr., 87, Adrian, Missouri, died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian with burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at the Atkinson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, Adrian.
Bob was born December 26, 1925 in Butler, Missouri, the son of Frank Dowell and Nina Lillian (Lynch) Herman. He married Peggy Jo Ann Bridges on October 12, 1952 at the Adrian United Methodist Church. They were married 60 years. To this union two children were born, Robert Eugene Herman Jr. and Vicki Diane Wimsatt.
Bob retired after 31 years from the General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant. He was a member of UAW Local 93, the Adrian Lions Club and the Adrian United Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, making crafts for his family and going to Boy Scout Camp with his son and scouts. He and Peggy spent many weekends at Pomme de Terre Lake and after his retirement they enjoyed 25 winters in San Benito, Texas where they met many lifelong friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Floyd Thiele Herman. He leaves behind his wife, Peggy, of the home; son, Robert Herman Jr. and his wife, Anita of Peculiar, Missouri; daughter, Vicki Wimsatt and her husband, Randy of Adrian, Missouri; 5 grandchildren, Thad (Leanne) Wimsatt of Peculiar, Missouri, Kelsi (Eric) Robards of Amoret, Missouri, Krystin Herman of Springfield, Missouri, Jessica Staiert and Jayne Grenyo of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; 7 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jenna and Carson Staiert, Gavin and Zoey Flessner and Sidney and Austin Wimsatt.
