Rich Hill 4th of July plans in case of rain

Here are the plans in case of rain:

Friday Night: Children's Promenade, Baby Contest and Talent Show will be moved the the Rich Hill HS Dome. 

Please enter on southwest side of dome. 
The glow run will go on as planned in rain and we will only cancel if there is severe weather or lightning, please dress for the weather the trail is all concrete.

  • Saturday Night: If we are forced to cancel the concert, there will be no make up date or alternative place for the band to perform.
  • Sunday Night: Pie Contest and Auction will be moved to the Methodist Church.
  • Monday: If the West Park is muddy the car show will be moved to 7th and Park Ave.
The parade could get pushed back an hour or two.

Stay tuned for more information regarding the fireworks and other events planned for the evening of the 4th.

Nevada 4th of July celebration all set

Good music, fireworks and family fun is in store as Vernon County will be treated to the annual Nevada 4th of July celebration at Centennial Park Fairgrounds on Saturday July 2nd. 

Food? Yes and plenty of it. Vendors will be set up at the fairgrounds in the afternoon. Fireworks will start at 9:30 pm. 

Through the evening hours there will be live music by local artists and Platinum Entertainment.

A little pie in your eye on the 4th of July?

Rich Hill has become famous for a multitude of things... it was once a huge coal mining town but in more recent times people know Rich Hill for other reasons, such as their 4th of July celebrations with big name musical stars. And pies.

One injured in semi truck rollover in Henry County

Around 5:08am this morning the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with the Henry County Sheriffs Office responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Missouri 18 Highway just East of SW County Road 1501 in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 
2015 Kenworth driven 43 year old Patrick A. Nourse of Lawrence, Kansas ran off the right side of the roadway due to vision being obstructed.

The semi truck then overturned and came to rest on its right side.

Mr. Nourse sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton for treatment.

The truck received extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Golden Valley Tow.

Lee Anne Stukesbary
Lee Anne Stukesbary, 49, Nevada, MO passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Nevada. Lee Anne was born December 20, 1966 in El Dorado Springs, MO to Wilbur Lee and Marilyn Kay (Scott) Charbonneau.  
Lee Ann attended school in Nevada graduating from Nevada High School. She worked as a night auditor for hotel/motel finances for a number of years. Lee Ann always loved camping and being outdoors. She also loved the Native American heritage, and spending time with her family. Lee Ann was compassionate and generous, she had a servants heart, and a gift for giving.

Survivors include two daughters, Shelby Anne Stukesbary, Joplin, MO, Megan Kay Blystone, Joplin; one son, Zachary Miles Charbonneau, Dederick, MO; father, Wilbur Charbonneau and his wife Margaret, Dederick; one sister, Robin Anderson and her husband Mark, Branson; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, and her special friend John McCann.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Obituary - Isaiah Keith Jones

Isaiah Keith Jones 5 years old of Peculiar, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri surrounded with love and family.

Isaiah is survived by his parents, Bethany Jones and Andrew Baer of the home; his paternal grandparents, Rex and Jane Baer of Harrisonville, Missouri; his maternal grandparents, Don and Teresa Jones of Peculiar, Missouri; maternal great grandparents, Pat and Charlie Jones of Republic, Missouri, and Kay and Porter Leffingwell of Marionville, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.

Services are pending under the care of Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Warsaw teenager injured in Henry County rollover accident

Around 9:05am this morning the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County responded to a one vehicle rollover accident on Route Z at County Road 1121 in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1999 Mazda driven by 18 year old Melissa R. Scrivener of Warsaw, Missouri failed to negotiate a left hand curve causing the vehicle to travel off the left side of the roadway. 

The vehicle then returned to the roadway before traveling off the left side of the roadway overturning. 

Melissa R. Scrivener sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton by ambulance form treatment.

The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Cole's Tire.

The Butler Police Department is asking for the communities assistance involving a hit and run that occurred 06/29/2016 sometime after the hours of 3:55pm at the Thrift Store on Outer Road - formerly known as the bowling alley.

The Vernon County Sheriffs Office sent out a Nixle to make the public aware that registered sex offender Clayton Douglas Ledbetter (6/24/ 87) has moved into a residence located at
227 N Elm Street Nevada, Missouri.


Mr. Ledbetter was convicted in Saline County, Kansas 03/15/05.

He was convicted of 1.) Criminal Sodomy male 12 years old  2.)Aggravated Criminal Sodomy male 12-13 years old 3.) Indecent Liberties with a 15 year old male.

Pittsburg Kansas man missing in Southeast Missouri

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is looking for a missing Kansas man.

At around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, the Days Inn Hotel on S. Main contacted them for a well-being check.

Hotel staff told police they man had not checked out of his room on time. They said the cleaning crew found some property belonging to the man still in the room, but he and his vehicle were nowhere to be found.
Officers identified the man as 66-year-old Larry Weaver, of Pittsburg, Kan.

According to police, his wife said Weaver had been traveling on his black 2013 Harley Davidson Street Glide when he went missing.

Weaver left several personal items in the room that led police to believe something was wrong. Some of the items include his wallet, credit cards, some keys, cellphone, clothing and riding gear.

Currently, police say they are unsure if Weaver had some sort of medical event, an unseen motorcycle crash or even that he may be a victim of foul play.

Weaver is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 185 pounds.

The motorcycle has Kansas license plates: "36A0Y" and hard saddle bags.

As of 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, Weaver was still considered missing.

Obituary - Grover William Durossette

Grover William Durossette
Grover William Durossette, age 89, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at the Ft. Scott Mercy Hospital. He was born September 10, 1926, in Richards, Missouri, the son of LeRoy Durossette and Clara Frances Bennett Durossette. He married Maxine L. Gibson on April 3, 1945. 

She preceded him in death on October 16, 2005. In earlier years, Grover worked for the railroad and then performed sanitation work in Kansas City. Later, he returned to Ft. Scott and was employed by Tower Metal for many years. He enjoyed wood carving, gardening and fishing as well as spending time with his family and his dogs.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Jean Durossette and wife, Sheila, Frank Durossette and wife, Mary, and two daughters, Bonita Sue Jones and husband, Ronald and Carolyn Lotterer, all of Ft. Scott. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sixteen brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 2nd at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. 


The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Ft. Scott, KS 66701. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

Avis Jean (Ellis) Crain was born April 20, 1945 in Aurora, Illinois, daughter of Ora and Delores (Ortmayer) Ellis.

Avis was a homemaker who greatly enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. In her later years, her family remembers how much she loved shopping at Wal-Mart and trips to McDonalds. She particularly enjoyed the activities at Medicalodge, especially Bingo and music. Avis also loved animals, and they loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale; son Michael; and brother Jeff. She is survived by her daughter Nancy; step-children Christin, Cassie, Christopher, and Brian; sisters Margie and Susan (and husband Dennis); and one grandson, Brandon.

Linn County Sheriffs Office attempting to locate this man

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on June 27 an unknown person attempted to set fire to construction materials in the parking lot of the Parker Elementary School.

A picture of that individual captured by the school camera is included. He is wearing a shirt that says "Play Hard or Go Home."

One arrested in Bates County

On 6/28/16 around 10:58pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Bates County arrested 20 year old Tyler K. Millikin of Stella, Missouri.

Mr. Millikin was arrested for 1.) Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance.

He was booked into the Bates County Jail and later released.

One dead after shooting in Henry County

Just after 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016, Corporal Richardson and Deputy Osman were dispatched to 300 Winchell in Windsor regarding shots fired. At the home deputies found the body of a white male subject laying on the front porch with an apparent wound to the chest.

Resuscitation efforts by deputies and paramedics proved fruitless and the subject, Terry Lynn Maples, age 45 of Windsor was pronounced dead at the scene. 


Another resident at the scene, Jeffrey Dean Watring, age 44 was taken into custody regarding the shooting on an investigative hold for murder 2nd degree.

A search warrant was served at the residence later that afternoon by deputies and several items were seized as evidence in the investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Assisting at the scene was Sheriff Oberkrom, Major Hills, Detective Koenke, Deputy Townsend and Deputy Lambirth. Detective Dugan assisted with the search warrant application from the Clinton office.

One injured in Henry County accident involving road grader

On 6/28/16 around 8:50am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County responded to a two vehicle accident involving a road grader at CR SE 100 and Missouri 7 Highway in rural Henry County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2011 Ford driven by 28 year old Kelly R. Bethel of Warsaw, Missouri attempted to pass a 1990 John Deere Road Grader driven by 63 year old James A. Bradford of Clinton, Missouri at it was attempting to make a left hand turn causing the vehicle to strike.

Kelly R. Bethel sustained moderate injuries in this accident and she was transported by private vehicle to St. Lukes Hospital.

The 2011 Ford sustained moderate damage in this accident ant towed from the scene by Cole Tire and Battery.

Harrisonville woman injured in Cass County accident

Around 4:35pm this evening the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Cass County along with the Cass County Sheriffs Office responded to a two vehicle accident on I-49 Southbound at Mile Marker 173 in rural Cass County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2012 Lexus driven by 28 year old Emily D. Stephens of Harrisonville, Missouri attempted to change lanes causing both vehicles to exit the roadway and causing the Lexus to strike a 2007 Chevrolet driven by 43 year old Steven H. Johnson of Peculiar, Missouri.

Emily Stephens sustained minor injuries in this accident and she was transported by ambulance to Belton Regional Medical Center.

Both vehicles sustained minor injuries and no tow was needed.
