The Rich Hill Fire Department with mutual aid from the Butler Fire Department, along with the Rich Hill Police Department and Bates County Sheriffs Office are on scene of a house fire at 510 East Oak Street in Rich Hill.
The house has smoke coming out of the roof at this time and everyone is said to be out of the home.

James Paul Theis passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Clinton Rehabilitation Center at the age of 86.
Jim was born on August 6, 1930 in Riceville, Iowa, the son of Harry and Hazel Marr Theis. He graduated from St. Patricks High School in Waukon, Iowa in 1948. After high school graduation he worked with his father at Theis Clothing Store in Waukon for two years. On August 20, 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country until being honorably discharged in June, 1954.
After his discharge Jim enrolled at Drake University where he completed his Pharmacy degree in 1959. He met the love of his life, Becky Onken, in the fall of 1957, and they were wed on May 31, 1958. From this marriage seven children were born. They include: Lori (Larry) Bartruff of Beaver Dam, WI; Teri (Corey) Bowman of Warrensburg, MO; Todd of Las Vegas, NV; Tami (Ken) Kuta of Panora, IA; Jani (Alan) Carlon of DeForest, WI; Jodi (Terry) Olson of Duluth, MN; Viki (Rick) Schmidt of Wellsville, KS. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his sister Linda (Mike) Manning of Lansing, IA; two brothers; John (Jan) of Macomb, IL and Tom (Ginny) of Hiawatha, IA; a brother-in-law Gene (Barb) Onken of Santa Fe, NM, and sister-in-law Darlene Piper of Peru, IN.
Preceding him in death were his parents; Harry and Hazel, brother; Dale, and his in-laws; Walter and Jessie Onken.
Jim was an active member of Holy Rosary church in Clinton where he served as a eucharistic minister and the Knights of Columbus.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00pm on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with a Memorial Mass of Christian burial following at 2:00pm. Inurnment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon, IA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Knights of Columbus in care of Holy Rosary, or the Clinton Rehabilitation Center and may be left in care of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, MO.

Zella is survived by her son, Bob Doane and wife Sharon of Eagan, Minnesota; one daughter, Linda Rolf and husband Scott of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Jean Chandler and Mary Jo Chandler both of Raytown, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Melissa Stong and husband Dusty, Becky Randalls and husband Dave, Laura Herring, Rick Doane, Stephanie Doane, Gayle Rolf, Casey Rolf and Sally Rolf; and four great-grandchildren, Kallie, Carissa, Dylan and Whitley. Clinton man injured in motorcycle accident
On 11/30/16 around 1:00pm the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County along with Henry County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a one vehicle motorcycle accident on Missouri 7 Highway at NW 11001 Road in rural Henry County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 2016 Harley Davidson driven by 26 year old Bryan T. Friend of Clinton, Missouri failed to negotiate a curve causing the bike to travel off the roadway and overturn.
Mr. Friend sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was transported by ambulance to Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri for treatment.
The bike received minor damages and it was towed from the scene by Golden Valley Tow.

The daughter of the late Charles Picton Berry and Sarah Annie (Ousley) Berry. Dr. Berry was born in Alabama, but came to Missouri at the age of 3, and was reared in Cass County. A graduate of Central Missouri State University, Dr. Berry earned the A.M. degree from the University of Michigan , and the Ph.D. degree from Columbia University in the City of New York. She began her teaching career in the schools of Cass County, was teacher and Chairman of the Social Science Department, Independence, Missouri Junior High School, then taught English and was Assistant Guidance Director in Albuquerque, New Mexico Public Schools. Following completion of the doctor's degree, Dr. Berry was Guidance Director in the Fort Lauderdale, Florida schools and then returned to Missouri where she taught 12 years as college counselor and Director of Teacher Education at the Junior College of Kansas City and the Metropolitan Community College.
Dr. Berry spent the next two years in research and study in Europe, where she lectured at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands, and Cambridge University in England. This experience was followed by professorships at the University of Maryland, the City University of New York, and Louisiana State University. The author of several research based books and numerous articles in professional journals, Dr. Berry was active in the American Counseling Association, The National Council of Teachers of English, and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. She was especially active during the 1970's and 1980's in efforts to secure equal employment opportunities for women instructors and professors in higher education. She was a nationally recognized scholar in her career field. Following retirement in 1987, Dr. Berry spent time on research and public services in the United States, Mexico, and Central America.
Dr. Berry was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Curtis Neil Berry of Harrisonville, Missouri and Charles Picton Berry, Jr. of Springfield, Missouri; four sisters, Monnie Berry, Lois Clement, Nonnie Dunkin and Louise McGee all of Harrisonville, Missouri. She is survived by one remaining sister, Gladys Russell of Los Altos, California; several nieces and nephews including Richard Berry who lives in Kansas City.
Funeral service will be 1 pm, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Clearfork Cemetery near Garden City, Missouri.

Bronaugh man arrested in Vernon County
On 11/29/16 the Vernon County Sheriffs Office arrested 45 year old Cory E. Hood of Bronaugh, Missouri.
Mr. Hood was charged with 1.) Felony 1st Degree Assault 2.) Misdemeanor trespassing 3.) Misdemeanor Assault.
He was booked into the Vernon County Jail and placed on a bond of $10,500.

FLASHBACK: Mount Vernon School finds a new home
Around 1979, the Mount Vernon Schoolhouse was given a new life when it was moved from its original location five miles west of Passaic to the current location at Frontier Village in Adrian. The building was in pretty good condition considering its age, complete with bell still intact. The photo below was taken just after the move was completed with Perry Rexroad and Don Arndt having a congratulatory handshake in the doorway.

Edith Lorene (Zeiler) Crowder was born December 25, 1925, near Lowry City, Missouri. Mrs. Crowder passed away peacefully at her home near Appleton City, Missouri November 27, 2016 at 90 years of age.
Edith was united in marriage to Haldor Crowder September 9, 1945 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Appleton City by Reverend G.A. Moss. The Crowders were blessed with two daughters.
Preceding Edith in death were her husband Haldor; parents John Wilbur, Jr. and Lena (Perkins) Zeiler; sisters, Dorothy M. Zeiler, Helen Reasoner and Joan Zeiler.
Survivors include her two daughters Antionette Lee Bracher and husband Larry and Mary Ann Crowder all of Appleton City; two grandsons, Steve Bracher and wife Delores and David Bracher; a granddaughter Annisa Bracher; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emily and Evan Bracher; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
17 year old Peculiar man arrested for exposing himself to 10 year old

Mr. Thomas tutored as part of a school sponsored program for elementary students.
When asked in a police statement Thomas admitted to exposing himself, saying he wanted to see if he could do it and get away with it.

St. Clair County Arrest Warrants
Clinton man injured in Henry County rollover accident
On 11/29/16 around 8:40am the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Henry County responded to a once vehicle rollover accident on NE 100 road just South of NE 300 road in rural Henry County.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred when the 1996 Ford driven by Eli D. Grier of Clinton, Missouri ran off the right side of the roadway. The driver then over corrected and striking a ditch causing the vehicle to over turn.
Mr. Grier sustained minor injuries in this accident and he was treated and the scene of the accident by EMS.
The vehicle received extensive damages and it was towed by Golden Valley Tow.

Charges filed in Harrisonville Shooting

Mr. Parks was charged with 1.) 1st degree assault 2.)armed criminal action, 3.) unlawful possession of a firearm.
The incident occurred at 1000 block of North Independence Street in Harrisonville when police arrived they found a unknown injured man who stated that Brian Parks had shot him, and he had also shot a woman inside the house.
Police quickly got word that Mr. Parks had fled the scene in a pick up truck. A traffic stop was made on the vehicle a short time later and Mr. Parks was arrested him without incident. Inside the truck they found a handgun and a shotgun with two spent shells.
Harrisonville Officers found the victim, identified as 42-year-old Tammy L. Christiansen dead inside the home with a single gunshot wound to the forehead.
Police quickly got word that Mr. Parks had fled the scene in a pick up truck. A traffic stop was made on the vehicle a short time later and Mr. Parks was arrested him without incident. Inside the truck they found a handgun and a shotgun with two spent shells.
Harrisonville Officers found the victim, identified as 42-year-old Tammy L. Christiansen dead inside the home with a single gunshot wound to the forehead.
The injured man who was a nephew of Tammy Christiansen stated to police that on Monday morning, a noise woke him up, and then he found Parks standing over him with a handgun.
He said he attacked the man and the two struggled over the gun. In the midst of the fight, he said the two tumbled into a closet and the gun went off, injuring him in the back. The wounded man was transported to an area hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Brian Parks was the maintenance man that serviced the rental home in which the shooting took place.
The man also stated that he had heard Christiansen and Parks arguing on the phone multiple times over the past few weeks and that the too used to be in a relationship that had recently ended.
Mr. Parks is held on a $50,000 cash-only bond. A trial date has not yet been set.
Additional charges in reference to this case are expected to be filed in the near future.

Pictured is Lisa AnnMarie Hicks, age 16, who has been reported as a runaway. It is believed that she may still be in Henry County, within the Clinton area, or possibly in the KC area, with other relatives.

Sherwood and Adrian schools team up to white out cancer

On November 8th the Sherwood Middle School and Adrian Middle School Basketball teams
competed in a Coaches vs. Cancer White Out game to benefit the American Cancer Society.
In the weeks preceding the game the two teams sold White out game T shirts and sought local business donations.
The two schools also competed in a Penny War in the week before the game. Together the teams raised over $5000 for the American Cancer Society.
The teams would like to extend their gratitude to all those who supported them in this endeavor.
This is the Third Annual Coaches vs. Cancer White Out game that Sherwood Middle School has hosted.

Harrisonville High School presents Elf, Jr., The Musical
Harrisonville High School will present Elf, Jr., The Musical next week.
Performances are set for December 7-10 at 7 p.m. in the HHS Performing Arts Center, 1504 E. Elm.
Tickets are $5 and can be reserved online at www.harrisonvilleschools.org.
Children 5 and under are free.

Update on Toys for Tykes 2016: we still have 14 children remaining that are in need of your help for Christmas morning. There are both girls and boys (but mostly boys) and vary in age from 4-15.
