The deputy then made contact with the driver of the vehicle. While the deputy was attempting to get a driver’s license and insurance information from the driver, the suspect placed the vehicle in drive and fled from the scene nearly striking the deputy as he drove away. The deputy then pursued the vehicle as it exited in the Passaic area and fled southbound on Business 49 continuing to drive erratically.
A short time later the vehicle left the roadway into a grassy area and then drove up onto the railroad tracks from the embankment. The vehicle then became stuck on the tracks as the deputy could observe a train coming down the tracks. The train was able to stop and the deputy approached the vehicle to locate the suspect. The deputy observed that the suspect had fled from the car on foot.
Members of the Bates County Sheriff’s Office and Butler Police Department searched the area for the suspect and was unable to locate that subject.
On 11-24-2016 the Bates County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a subject in the Butler area stating that there was subject knocking at her door that matched the description of the subject who fled from deputies the night before.
The reporting party also stated that the subject had left her residence in a red and yellow grain truck which was stolen from the victim’s residence. An officer with Butler PD was able to get the vehicle stopped near Mill Street in Butler and took suspect into custody.

The suspect identified as Shawn P. England (DOB 4/11/89) was transported to the Bates County Jail where he was charged with Tampering with a motor vehicle 1st degree, his bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety. England is still currently in custody at the Bates County Jail.
