Obituary - Virginia Maxine Harold Holt

Virginia Maxine Harold Holt
Virginia Maxine Harold Holt, 93, of Mound City died on Monday, May 29, 2017. Maxine was born June 6, 1923, in Fontana, Kansas to Loring (Lode) and Sylvia Harold. Maxine graduated from La Cygne High School. 

She was united in marriage to Herschel Holt on September 10, 1941. Maxine and Herschel lived on the Holt family farm where they raised their three children. 

Maxine ran the Holt CafĂ© in Mound City for four years during the 1950''s. After selling the restaurant in 1961 she went to work for the ASCS Office in Mound City in 1962 and retired from there in 1988. However, aside from her careers, Maxine was mostly a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Maxine was a wonderful homemaker and a good cooker according to one of the great-grandkids. 

During her retirement, Maxine spent her time traveling, doing volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the American Cancer Society. She was a long-time member of the Mound City Christian Church and also attended Wall Street Christian Church. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Herschel; her parents; sister, Joan; her three brothers Bryan, Loring, and Leslie; and her favorite son-in-law Ottis Allen and twin granddaughters, Tara and Kara. Survivors include one daughter, Minnie Lou Holt Allen; two sons and their wives, Larry Eldon and Linda Kay Holt, and Billy Bruce and Meg Holt; five grandchildren, Kirk, Kris, Kreg, Adam, and Mandy; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Holt will lie in state Thursday afternoon until 6:00 pm at the Schneider Funeral Home, Mound City Chapel. Visitation is at 10:00 am on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Mound City Christian Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. 

Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Mound City, KS. Memorial donations are suggested to the Hewitt-New Post No. 248 American Legion Auxiliary, Mound City Christian Church, and/or Wall Street Christian Church.
