The evening started with a chili/soup supper followed by an auction that brought some amazing bids on some of the items- tickets for a Chiefs/Broncos game brought $400 and a quilt made by the late Barb Corwine of Amsterdam that topped out at an amazing $1,500 (more info in the photo caption below).
Many other donated items, too numerous to mention all hit the auction block helping to make the evening a "huge success" as well. Some items included pies, jellies, and desserts brought as much as $100 each.
The idea of having the benefit was the brainchild of Debbie Burton and Wes Hubbard, both of rural Amsterdam, who wanted to do something special for friends in need. They, along with help from the Amsterdam Jubilee Committee, spent many weeks in advance working to get donations and spread the word about the event that drew folks from all over.

Included in the fun was the "Fowl Shot" game which involves placing a chicken in a pen with squares marked on the floor. Eventually the chicken 'marks' a square and a winner is named.
A special thank you goes to auctioneer Larry Cantrell who donated his time for the evening. It should be noted that while a collection was taken up to pay him, he generously donated it back to the cause.

| This quilt was donated by Tammy Cameron of Amoret. Years ago, Barb Corwine made the quilt and donated it to a Cancer Benefit for Kobe Black. Tammy won the quilt at that fundraiser and donated it to this event. Kobe's grandmother, Chelle Black, came to this fundraiser to win the quilt, no matter the amount and then promptly gave it back to Tammy Cameron. While it was an emotional moment, it was also realized this quilt is truly "a gift that keeps on giving" |
