Mrs. Lois L. Reine, age 78 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Capital Region Medical Center.
Lois was born August 21, 1936 in McGirk, Mo. the daughter of Marvin L. and Edith L. Lotz Allee. She was married on June 1, 1957 in McGirk, Mo. to Willard C. Reine.
Lois was a 1955 graduate of California High School, California, Mo. After graduation, she was employed as a secretary with the Income Tax Division of the Missouri Dept. of Revenue in Jefferson City. In 1960, Willard graduated from the University of Missouri Law School in Columbia and they moved to East Prairie in Southeast Missouri. She was employed part time in his law office.
In 1965, they moved back to Jefferson City where she was employed as a Secretary in the House of Representatives in 1966. She served as the Executive Secretary to House Speaker Kenneth Rothman from 1977 until 1981. He was elected to Lt. Governor in 1980 and she continued as his Executive Secretary until 1985. Lois was employed as the Legislative Assistant to Senator Harold Caskey of Butler from 1985 until her retirement in 1999.
Lois was active in local, district, and state levels of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Missouri since 1960 and was a member and past president of the Dianas Club in Jefferson City. Since 1993, Lois was a member of the Board of Directors of the GFWC which sponsored Girls Town of Missouri located near Kingdom City, Mo.
She had been an active and was an officer in various Democratic Party organizations including a member of the State Democratic Committee for ten years. Since retirement, Lois served as a docent at the Missouri Governor’s Mansion and the Cole County Historical Society.
Governor Bob Holden appointed her as the public member of the Missouri Hearing Instruments Specialists Licensing Board for a five year term.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she was in the choir, and Sunday School Teacher, and a member of various committees and ministry teams.
Lois and Willard enjoyed spending time with their family. Their grandsons in Jefferson City were active in sports and they spent many weekends attending hockey, soccer, basketball, and baseball games. They supported their granddaughter who played the violin in the school orchestra and was also captain of the swim team and a school cheerleader.
They enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to travel to most of the states and Canada. In 1990, 1998, and 2005, they spent two weeks traveling in England.
Survivors include: her husband of fifty-seven years, Willard Reine; two daughters, Cynthia L. Campbell and her husband Brian of Jefferson City, Mo. and Christina L. Seiden of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Zachary Campbell, Andrea Seiden, and Cole Campbell; three sisters, Carol Maples of Richmond, Mo., Marlene Allee of California, Mo., and Edith Hamilton and her husband John of Hannibal, Mo.; two brothers, Norris Allee and his wife Carolyn of Houston, Texas and Paul Allee and his wife Suzy of High Point, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday, October 2, 2014.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, October 3, 2014 at the First Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Doyle Sager officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Missouri Girl’s Town or the First Baptist Church.
