BHS Bear Brigade Winding Up

Butler High School marching Bear Brigade will be starting summer band camp a little ahead of schedule this season to prepare for fall home performances and away competitions. Monday July 23 through Wednesday July 25, 7th, 8th and 9th graders will practice marching fundamentals from 9 am to 11 a.m.

The Bear Brigade flag corps is open to any 8th grade through 12th grade high school student who doesn’t play an instrument. Students interested in trying out for the band’s flag corps will be working from 9 am to noon during the same dates. Final flag corps tryouts will be Wednesday, July 25 at 11:30 a.m. The full band will report for band camp beginning Monday, July 30 at 9:00 a.m. going through Friday, August 10.

The Bear Brigade’s first performance will be Friday, August 24 at Butler’s first home football game. Senior Jayce Teeman, son of Johnny and Teresa Teeman, will lead the Bear Brigade as field conductor. The band’s competition show theme, “iCaliente” is filled with popular Latin-flavored music. The music is very upbeat and will feature all sections of the band with a special percussion feature in the middle section of the show.
