Details on house fire in Butler yesterday

Report from Butler Fire Chief Jim Henry

On Wed., July 25th at approximately 4:00 P.M., the Butler Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in the 500 blk. of W. Ohio St.

On arrival, a fire was found in the attic area of a 2 1/2 story, wood frame residential structure, with heavy smoke coming from the roof area.

An interior attack was initiated and the fire was declared under control at approximately 4:21 P.M.

Crews remained on the scene until 5:35 P.M. conducting overhaul.

There was fire and smoke damage to the attic area, some rafters, and roof decking, along with items stored in the attic. There was some minor water damage to the second floor.

The temperature at the time exceeded 100 degrees, and crews were rotated out for rehab on a frequent basis.

Adrian Fire Dept. responded under automatic mutual aid, and Rich Hill Fire Dept. was put on standby in their station.

Bates Co. EMS responded a unit for standby, and Butler P.D. and Bates Co. S.O. provided traffic control.
