The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”.
For February, the Miami Student of the Month is McKayla Hines. McKayla, a sophomore, is the daughter of Sandy and Kevin Hines. Her main activities at school include volleyball and MSHAA district music contests where she excels at piano. She carries her musical ability outside of school with private lessons and her church praise band. McKayla is inspired to work hard by her parents and that they had good grades in high school. She plans to go to college, and music will be important there. Staff at Miami say McKayla goes above and beyond expectations when it comes to classroom performance, and she is considered very kind and courteous.

The Ballard Student of the Month is Samantha Walsh. Samantha, a senior, is the daughter of Dan and Karla Walsh. Staff at Miami say “she is a perfect example of what a role model should be like. She’s quiet but is always respectful and courteous to everyone, no matter what the situation is. Samantha is credited with hard work and courtesy as well as leadership in all activities. Her punctuality and creativity are also well known. Two interesting aspects of her life in school are improvement by leaps and bounds in volleyball while excelling in her talent as an artist by winning the mural contest which is now being painted down the high school hallway.

The Adrian Optimist Club Student of the Month committee is always proud of our students and this statement could most always be made. But, this month each student was credited with being kind, courteous, and caring. Considering the trials going on all over the world, these three students make us very proud.
