Optimist Student of the Month‏

The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”.

For April, the Miami student is Austin Muller. Austin, a senior, is the son of Aaron and DaPhne Muller. In school his activities include FFA, basketball, track, and Courtwarming King. Outside of school Austin works hard as a Military Policeman for the Missouri National Guard. Austin is inspired by and desires to help people as a leader. Miami staff say Austin’s attitude is contagious to all around him, and he inspires all who know him. He is a positive role model and most of all a good, kind, generous person.

The Ballard student is Bailey Rexford, junior daughter of Angela and Larry Bergschneider and John Rexford. High school Business instructor, Cheryl Murchie states “Bailey is an excellent student. She always gives 100+percent to everything she does in my classes. She is willing to help other students if they need a little help. Bailey has a great sense of humor and I very rarely see her without a smile. She is a girl who has set goals for herself and makes sure she is doing everything to see those goals accomplished. AG instructor Dustin Bridges adds “Bailey is an extraordinary young lady who puts 100% of herself into everything that she does.” She is credited with pushing herself outside of her comfort zone and growing into a very responsible and respectable individual, going out of her way to provide guidance and help to anyone who needs it.

Krista Smith, a junior, is the Adrian student this month. Krista is the daughter of Edith McMurray. Her favorite in school activity is Junior High basketball manager. Teacher, Shaun Bruto credits Krista with facing many challenges in her life and coming through the trials as a better person and student. She does a very good job in the classroom as well as being very helpful to her classmates and teachers. She has been the junior high basketball manager for three years and does everything asked of her and more. She shows up for practive at six in the morning when there was no personal reward for doing so. One of her main duties was to monitor the locker room while the girls were changing. Shaun never had to worry about the locker room because she did an excellent job with the girls. Krista finds inspiration in her teachers, friends, and family. She truly desires continuing her education beyond high school.
