CITY OF BUTLER EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
JIM HENRY, DIRECTOR
On Monday, July 1, the City of Butler launched TextCaster, a mass notification system with which subscribers can receive alerts via text message and email.
This service will be available to citizens by subscribing through the City of Butler web page at mo-butler.civiccities.com and clicking on the link that will take you to the sign up page.
On the sign up page, follow the step-by-step directions to subscribe. You will need to know your wireless provider. The service is free from the City of Butler, but you should check with your provider for any message or data rates that may apply. From this page you can also unsubscribe or change your message preferences.
You may choose what messages you wish to receive from various departments by checking the boxes. There are city announcements, as well as announcements from the Police Department, Fire Department/Emergency Management, Public Works, and Parks and Recreation.
Examples of alerts you can select are various meeting announcements to include City Council, Planning & Zoning, Airport Commission and various community events. Also street closings, hydrant flushing schedules, pool closings, information on utility disruptions, constructions projects, and various emergency alerts by the Police and Fire/Emergency Management.
At the bottom of the selection page you can select Severe Weather Alerts for Bates County. These alerts will come directly from the National Weather Service.
This service will also allow various city departments to communicate with each other by various groups established in-house.
