Memorial Services for Lowell Logan will be 10:00 AM Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Mullinax Funeral Home (660-679-0009) in Butler, Missouri with Greg Mullinax officiating. Visitation Wednesday evening, 6 – 8 PM with Masonic Services beginning at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Lowell Warren Logan, 82 of Butler, Missouri passed away March 24, 2014 at his home in Butler. He was born July 30, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri, son of Warren and Nina M. (French) Logan.
Lowell moved to Butler in 1945 and graduated from Butler High School in 1948. He worked with his dad as an electrician until he went to Moler Barber School in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating October 14, 1950; and later that same month, began work at South Side Barber Shop in Butler. While in Barber school he joined the Army Reserves – just to have something to do on Thursday evenings!
In January 1951, his unit was called to active duty and Lowell was sent to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He took advantage of every weekend pass he could wrangle to come home to Butler, all because of Waldeane Niggley. They were married June 8, 1952 and returned to Kentucky until November of 1952, when Lowell was discharged. Upon returning to Butler, he was again at South Side Barber Shop as a partner with Gene Wilson, later buying the business in 1975.
Lowell was president and secretary of the Butler Jaycees, helping build the Jaycee Park, including the Shelter House. He coached Little League football several years and served as Eagle Scout advisor for five years. He was a member of the American Legion, the Butler Masonic Lodge where he was due to receive his 50-year pin in May, 2014, the Scottish Rite, and Ararat Shrine in Kansas City. Lowell was also a member of the Butler Country Club and enjoyed golf, hunting, and fishing.
Lowell was an accomplished builder – having built three homes in Butler, with help from his dad, brother, nephew, and son. He also built one home at Lake of the Ozarks, frequently driving the boat and pulling the kids on skis.
Lowell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Butler.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Waldeane Logan of Butler; son, Dr. Russell Logan and wife Pam of Lamar; and daughters Sandy Golden and husband John and Sheri Wheelen and husband Marty, all of Joplin; granddaughters Amanda O’Brien and husband Thaddeus and Abbey Logan and fiancé Jenny Johnson, all of Overland Park, Kansas; and one brother, Kenneth W. Logan and wife Deanna of Reeds Spring, Missouri.
