According to Henry County Sheriff J. Kent Oberkrom, Deputy Zach Sebree responded to SW Hwy HH and SW Hwy RA on a report of a suspicious vehicle and possible theft of scrap metal at 7:30 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2013. While attempting to arrest the driver, Randy Matthew Taylor, age 33, Leeton, Deputy Sebree was struck in the head by stolen scrap metal loaded on the truck.
Sgt. Mike Nelson has continued to work the assault and theft cases and has made an additional arrest and recovered an extensive amount of stolen property in various areas throughout Henry and St. Clair County.
On Saturday November 23, 2013, Sgt. Mike Nelson arrested Roy Kirk, age 28 of Clinton on a 24 hour hold for burglary and stealing. Kirk, who was already on supervised probation is being held in the Henry County Detention Center. According to the Sheriff’s Office report, Taylor and Kirk were working together during several of the thefts.
Taylor is also being investigated for felony damage to jail property as he allegedly tampered with an access panel in a jail cell since his incarceration.
