At the moment of impact: This photo was taken by Kolby Hubbard during the apparent microburst that destroyed this barn at the Dean Allen residence near Amoret this morning. |
While most of the area saw mild thunderstorms, the Dean Allen residence located about 4 miles east of Amoret, was the apparent target of a small micro-burst that destroyed a barn around 6:30 this morning. According to witness Kolby Hubbard, strong winds accompanied by heavy rain and at least nickel sized hail ripped apart the barn and scattered it up to 1/4 mile away. No injuries were reported.
Oddly enough, property owned by Denny Vest, directly across the road from the Allen residence did not suffer any wind damage.
There were no active weather warnings at the time of the storm.
The forecast for the remainder of the day calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms with the heat index to reach 108 to 113 later this afternoon (the excessive heat warning runs through 7 p.m. this evening). There's a 40% chance of rain tonight then back to dry and hot conditions for the remainder of the week.
