Bears qualify 6 for state wrestling tournament

On Friday and Saturday, February 10-11, the Butler Bears varsity wrestling team travelled to the Class 1 District 2 Wrestling Tournament at Knob Noster High School. The Bears qualified 6 wrestlers for the state tournament next week at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia, February 16-18.

Coach Wackerman’s Comments

“The district tournament, along with the state tournament, is a testament to the overall improvements your wrestlers can make over the course of a season. For some, the journey to this year’s district tournament began the moment they were eliminated last year from the district tournament. We didn’t put as many wrestlers in the championship finals as we would have liked.Regardless, our wrestlers performed well in a crowded, stressful environment at Knob Noster.Tactical matches, following a solid gameplan, wrestling aggressively to score at all times, performing just like you practice…these are the only way you can achieve your goals at this time of year. Good wrestlers make their own breaks at the crucial moments. 6 qualifiers is our highest number of qualifiers for the program since 2008, so we are pleased about a strong group going to state. 4 of our state qualifiers are seniors, so it is especially fortunate that they will get to finish their wrestling careers in the best possible venue- the Missouri state wrestling tournament next weekend. We are on our final mission this week- to bring home state medals.
