2012 County Committee nomination for the Bates County townships of West Boone, East Boone, West Point, Elkhart, Homer, Charlotte, Walnut, and Howard are being taken now through August 1st at the Bates County FSA office. Elections take place this fall. Nomination candidates must be filed by the August 1st deadline. To become a nominee, eligible individuals must sign form FSA-669A. Newly elected committee members and alternates will take office January 1st 2012. Local fireworks schedule- Adrian's Fireworks display will be held following the Bull Buckout on June 30th; D&D Fireworks display will be on June 30th; Drexel and Rich Hill fireworks displays will be on the 4th of July.

Crop producers and cattlemen are invited to attend a Soil Quality and Cover Crop Workshop on Tuesday, June 26th to discuss the benefits of improving soil health. The workshop will be held from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Adrian Optimist building, located south of Adrian on Old 71 Highway.
Featured speaker David Brandt will share his experience utilizing cover crops in a continuous no-tillage system on his farm in Ohio.

The Cass County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a 2008 John Deere Z970A commercial mower. The mower has a 72” cutting deck and a serial number of DS1A0920143691. Similar machine, note roll bar is folded down. The mower was taken from the 28800 block of East 245th Street, Harrisonville, Missouri. The mower and three Redmax weed eaters and a Redmax leaf blower were taken between 06/10 – 06/14/2012.
