Ridin' The Storm Out, Posse Style!

The Bates County Sheriff's Posse, a volunteer support organization for the Bates County Sheriff's Office, is preparing basic emergency storm kits. The Sheriff's Posse was formed in 2009 and provides support to the Sheriff's Office during county events. The Posse can be called on for traffic and crowd control, search and rescue missions, and support for natural disasters. The Sheriff's Posse has recently purchased the old Pioneer Museum on Ft. Scott street in Butler and will be restoring the building and turning it into a Law Enforcement Museum for the community to enjoy the history of law enforcement in our county.

The kits will be available for purchase and include basic necessity items such as: emergency blanket, candles, matches, gloves, flash lights, batteries, toilet paper, and bottles of water. These kits can be purchased for $25 or if you wish to purchase a kit with a weather radio the cost will be $45. The Sheriff's Posse encourages the purchasers of the kit to keep them in the basement or the room that has been designated as the safe room in your house. The proceeds from the kits will be used by the Posse to fund the organization's activities. Along with the items mentioned above your kit will include a first aid kit (bandages, latex gloves, face mask, alcohol wipes, gauze, burn cream, triple antibiotic ointment, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, ice pack, medical tape) and activities for your family, as you "ride out the storm."

If you are interested in purchasing a Storm Kit please contact Jami Page or Jalyn Rosier at the Bates County Sheriff's Office, 660-679-3232
