Bates County Sheriff's Department Press Release: Stolen Boat


On November 20th at approximately 8:30pm the Bates County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a boat being stolen from a driveway. The victim stated that he observed a newer dark colored 4 door pickup truck take his boat from his driveway. He stated he had chased the subjects from his residence, located in Butler, out on U Hwy west of Rich Hill. He stated that he lost the subjects when he ran out of gas. At some point during his chase with the suspect, a white male exited the passenger side of the suspect’s truck and shot at the victim twice.
 
Extra deputies were dispatched from their residence to respond to the area. Both Bates County K9 units were also dispatched to the area. After several hours of searching the area the boat and its trailer were recovered several miles off of U Hwy on a gravel road. 
 
The suspects were not identified by the victim and were not located during the initial call. The case is a joint investigation by the Butler Police Department and Bates County Sheriff’s Office. If you have any information about the case please contact the Butler Police Department at 660-679-6131 or the Bates County Sheriff’s Office at 660-679-3232.
