UPDATE: K9 units called to aid police search during pursuit on I-49

At 2:14 p.m. yesterday, a trooper advised he was in pursuit of a blue Dodge Intrepid northbound I-49 from the 138.4 mile marker in Bates County. The suspect vehicle fled as the trooper approached for traffic charges. The vehicle continued northbound on I-49 at a high rate of speed. At I-49 north of Route AA, the vehicle struck spike strips deployed by trooper's. The vehicle continued traveling northbound and the white male driver threw items and baggies from the vehicle during a span of several miles. The driver began gesturing with his hands, including making motions as if his hand were a pistol. No actual weapons were displayed. At 2:19 p.m., the vehicle exited northbound on MO-291 and the vehicle overheated, causing the vehicle to stop near Quik Trip on Rockhaven Road at MO-291. Vearl C. Strutton II age 42, was taken into custody without further incident. Strutton advised he failed to yield because he was en route to the hospital for a possible stroke. EMS transported subject to Cass County Medical Center where he was evaluated for that and other advised ailments with nothing confirmed. Strutton is currently at the hospital under evaluation. He was arrested for felony resisting, felony possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), felony tampering, no driver license, and exceeding posted speed limit. Investigation continues.
