Clinton man found guilty, Sentencing to come later

Richard McNabb
In early Jan. of this year, Clinton Police officers were made aware of a threat that had been made against Henry County Prosecutor Richard Shields.

The threat was apparently made by 34 year old Richard McNabb of Clinton.

McNabb at the time had pending court cases for a charge of murder in the second degree and neglect of a child resulting in a death, along with unrelated drug charges.

According to witnesses, McNabb threatened to kill Prosecutor Shields by shooting him and then he intended to kill himself. With the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Deputies of the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, Clinton Police took eventually took McNabb into custody.

Mr. McNabb was charged with 24 hour investigation of attempting to commit murder in the first degree. There is no new court date for McNabb concerning this charge.

However, as far as the murder and neglect charges, yesterday afternoon the court announced that McNabb was found guilty of the class C felony of neglect of a child.

The court found him to be a prior and persistent felony offender, which makes the maximum penalty 15 years in the department of corrections. The court ordered a sentencing assessment report and set sentencing for Sept 21.
