Thelma Faye Sterns, 86, lifelong resident of Adrian, MO, died at her home on Friday, August 19, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Atkinson Chapel in Adrian, MO with visitation from 10:00-11:00 at the chapel. Burial will be in Crescent Hill Cemetery in Adrian.
Thelma was called to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, joining her husband Harold and son Frank, who preceded her in death. Thelma, an identical twin, was born to Frank and Edna Baie on February 25, 1925. Twin sister, Velma, and other sisters, Wilma and Elma, also preceded her in death.
Thelma was married to her childhood sweetheart, Harold M. Sterns of Adrian on December 22, 1941. During WWII, Thelma supported her country and her husband, who was fighting in the Pacific theater, as a "Rosie the Riveter"! She made bomber engine parts at Pratt & Whitney plant in Kansas City. After the war, Thelma continued to work in several fields, retiring from AT&T. Thelma was an integral part of, and assisted her husband and son, in their family automotive parts and repair business in Adrian.
Thelma was a baptized believer and was a member of the Adrian Christian Church. She attended Adrian Schools, but due to war and marriage demands, she obtained her G.E.D. later in life. Thelma was a past member of the Rebekah and Eastern Star Lodges in Adrian.
Thelma is survived by her dearly loved grandson, F. Jason Sterns and his wife, Sheryl and their daughters, Hailey and Jenna of Joplin, MO, and from Oklahoma, niece Sharon Fritts and nephews, Mike and Mark Fritts.
