Obituary - Charles S. Markley, Jr.

Charles S. Markley, Jr., 77 of Drexel, Missouri passed away December 26, 2016 at his home in Drexel. Cremation, followed by private family graveside services, with military honors, in Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. Services under the direction of Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel Chapel (660-679-0009).

Charles Sidney Markely, Jr. was born October 26, 1939 in Beaumont, Texas to Charles, Sr. and Ona Mae (Harris) Markley. Charles, or “Cholly” as he was known to family, graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas, and a Master’s Degree from Texas A&M. He served his country in the US Airforce during the Vietnam War, working diligently to program all the computer equipment. After his honorable discharge he continued his computer programming career along with a variety of other jobs until retirement. Charles loved to garden and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a simple man of simple means. He described himself as “just a happy old man.” His philosophy on life was, “you can be happy, if ya ‘unt to!”

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Keith, and sister Shelly. He is survived by his very special and dear friend Janice Ballard of the home in Drexel, sister Sue Champlin of Fort Worth, TX, Daughter Laura Savery of Maine, granddaughters Claire and Emma Savery, nephew Stephen Champlin, and niece Merilee Peterson.
