FUNERAL MASS will be held for Glen at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. OFFICIANT will be Father Tom Hermes. VISITATION/ROSARY will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Montrose, Missouri on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 with visitation from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary following at 7:00 p.m.INTERMENT will be in St. Ludger’s Cemetery, Germantown, Missouri.
The family suggests that a MEMORIAL can be made to Germantown Cemetery Association.Glen Lee Westhusing, son of Louis and Caroline (Cook) Westhusing was born January 21, 1925 in Germantown, MO. He passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Appleton City Manor Nursing Home, at the age of 88.After graduating from St. Ludger’s Elementary School, Glen worked as a farmhand in the Germantown community prior to moving to Kansas City where he worked at Folgers Coffee and for the railroad.
Glen married Alice Greufe, a former classmate, on January 13, 1948, at St. Ludger’s Catholic Church in Germantown. They made their first home in Clinton, MO, where Glen was employed as a route driver for Coca Cola Bottling Co. They eventually moved to Butler, MO, where Glen was employed by Hurt Distributing Co., followed by driving for the U. S. Postal Service. After he retired, they moved to Montrose, MO, where he drove part-time for the Postal Service.
Glen had a wide circle of friends and always enjoyed visiting. His Catholic faith was an important part of his life. He made it a priority to never be late for church services. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Glen was an avid baseball fan and was a player/manager of the Germantown team during the 1950’s and ‘60’s. While living in Butler, Glen and Alice enjoyed playing cards with a group of friends. A Golden Wedding Celebration in their honor was hosted by their nieces and nephews in 1998 and was greatly appreciated. Glen was present at the Westhusing family reunion in June of this year.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Dave (Hazel) Westhusing, Elmer (Caroline) Westhusing, Linus Westhusing, and Clyde “Bud” Westhusing; sister, Eunice (Cletus) Schussler; brother-in-law, Greg Schussler; as well as his parents-in-law, Ted and Clara Greufe; brothers-in-law: Bonnie Greufe, Ludger (Joe) Greufe, Howard Greufe, Leland Greufe, Joe Grinzinger, Erwin Vogel, and Joe Burrough.
Glen is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice of the home in Montrose; sister, Arlene Schussler; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Westhusing, Benita (Greufe) Grinzinger, Bea (Greufe) Vogel, who assisted with his in-home care, Ellen (Greufe) Burrough, and Evelyn (Hennessey) Greufe; and many nieces and nephews.
