Official Press Release House Fire on AA Highway Friday 8/30/13

The Adrian Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 30th  on a reported house fire on AA highway approx. 1/2 mile west of the railroad tracks. Adrian Fire units arrived finding heavy smoke & fire, with all occupants out of the home. Butler Fire Department responded automatic mutual aid assistance and several other fire departments were called in to assist due to the extreme heat conditions with the temperature that day being near 100 degrees.

The home was a total loss and the fire department assistant chief requested The Red Cross be contacted to assist the family of four.

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature caused from a grease fire on the stove. The Bates County Ambulance provided care for fire fighters throughout the incident making sure that the fire fighters safety was top priority. Bates County Sheriff's Department and State Highway Patrol were on the scene providing traffic control allowing additional incoming fire units to have clear and quick access to the scene. Additional fire units responded from: Central Cass Fire, Harrisonville Fire, West Peculiar Fire, Garden City Fire, Drexel Fire, and Amsterdam Fire Department was placed on standby coverage for additional call/s in the Adrian area.

The Adrian Police Chief responded at the request of the fire chief, and provided additional rehab supplies for the emergency responders. A huge thank you to everyone involved and we appreciate the great teamwork that is always provided.
